There will be DJs, free booze and our friends at Busy Beaver Buttons, Sonnenvzimmer Art and Print Studio, Starshaped Press and others will be showing new work and selling cool stuff. It’s designed to show off the intersecting (get it?) worlds of independent music, art, crafting and culture. Anyone interesting in going can RSVP at info(at)flingco(dot)com.”

  • Young Chicago
    • “To celebrate this historical lineage of design and the 25th anniversary of the Department of Architecture’s founding, Young Chicago looks at the community’s diverse body of contemporary designers.”
    • The Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S. Michigan Ave.
    • Through April 29

  • When Color Was New
    • “When Color Was New focuses on a generation of artists—including William Christenberry, William Eggleston, Helen Levitt, Joel Meyerowitz, and Stephen Shore—who turned away from black-and-white photography. Their color pictures forced a radical rethinking of both photography’s artistic capabilities and classifications, setting the stage for much art photography today.”
    • The Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S. Michigan Ave.
    • Through April 29

  • Amy Mayfield
    • “Amy Mayfield makes lusciously colored paintings of surreal landscapes inspired by secret languages and entries in her childhood diaries. They are populated with characters that recall the fantastic illustrations of Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein — but with sinister undertones.”
    • MCA, 220 E. Chicago Ave.
    • Through April 29
