It’s good to have friends in high places. But you don’t technically need to have one to take advantage of West Elm’s annual friends and family sale. Instead, all you need is the right discount code. (In this case its “FRIENDS.”) That gets you 20 percent off your entire purchase, including existing markdowns. While the furniture retailer has lots of sales, it can be hard to hit the perfect piece you’re eyeing at a price cut. This sale, however, is one of the few times you can guarantee you’re getting a good price on everything.

Not sure where to start? Here are some pieces Apartment Therapy editors love, from all-time favorite purchases to newer items they’re currently eyeing.

Mod Upholstered Platform Bed, Queen, $799 with discount code (usually $999)

“To be honest, when this bed was delivered, I thought I had made a mistake. The part of the platform that sticks out from the sides and at the foot—it’s a substantial ledge. But that ledge is the perfect place to prop a phone or the TV remote, and it’s a great pet step for my tiny dog. Now I don’t know why every bed doesn’t look just like this classic upholstered one.” –Taryn Williford, Lifestyle Editor

Lacquer Tray, 12×12 inches, $27 with discount (usually $34)

“At first glance lacquer trays might seem like a superfluous buy, but I’d make the case that they’re essential. You can mix and match different colors and styles, so it’s easy to switch up where and how you use them. But the main sell is that they make beautiful, Marie Kondo-style organization accessible to all–any assortment of pack rat objects can be artfully arranged atop one of these fun trays.” –Caroline Ammarell, Senior Content Strategy Editor

Audrey Nightstand in Blush, $240 with discount code (already on sale for $300)

“If I were redoing my bedroom, these would be my perfect nightstands. Texture? Check. Brass details? Check. Perfect blush hue? Check. Two drawers of storage to make up for the lack of it in my small city apartment? Check and check.” –Tara Bellucci, News & Culture Editor

Embellished Deco Shapes Pillow Covers, $39 with discount code (usually $49)

“I’m more than a bit obsessed with these new deco-shaped throw pillows. My home is pretty set in ’70s boho style, but I’ve been enjoying these types of accessories that push into a more elegant, Art Deco direction while still fitting into boho vibes.” –Adrienne Breaux, House Tour Editor

Reeve Mid-Century Side Table, $279 with discount (usually $349)

“My weirdly-shaped apartment means there’s just one wall big enough for a couch–and not much else. There’s also no where to put a coffee table that wouldn’t block the major thoroughfare through the space. I’m always on the lookout for a narrow side table that’s still functional enough to hold drinks and snacks without sacrificing style. As a bonus, I’ve also been looking for a way to store my ever-growing record collection. This bottom shelf is a lot chicer than an old milk crate.” –Marshall Bright, Commerce Editor

Pietro Mid-Century Round Ottoman, $239 with discount (usually $299)

“I’m looking for the perfect stool or ottoman to put in the corner of my small NYC bedroom, and this might be the one. It looks stylish enough to stand alone, but it will make a good spot to perch on while I put my shoes on in the morning or place my handbag on when I get home from work. And if I ever want to move it to my living room, it might make a handy extra surface with a tray on top!” –Sarah Yang, Managing Editor

Herringbone Soft Touch Throw, $47 with discount (usually $59)

“I’ve been searching for a yellow throw blanket for my living room for ages and this might be the perfect one! It’s crazy soft but it also looks gorgeous draped over my couch. You also personalize it with your name or initials which is an adorable bonus.” –Emma Glubiak, Audience Development Associate
