West Elm is getting into the hospitality business. Today, the retailer announced the launch of West Elm Hotels, the first of which will open in late 2018.
Each location will incorporate local design elements that celebrate the region and commission local artwork for public areas and rooms. Plus, custom furnishings will designed for each city, which will also be available for purchase online.
With West Elm Hotels, the company is focusing on "wholehearted hospitality," offering travelers personalized attention, regional knowledge, and community connections so they feel like a local.
West Elm isn't the first retailer to enter the hotel space; last year, Restoration Hardware took over a Meatpacking District building with plans to open a 12-room hotel, and even luxe gym Equinox has fitness-focused properties in the works for New York and LA.
The first two locations are slated Detroit and Savannah, with Charlotte, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis coming later.
