What To Do With Old Movie Film? Build a Bookshelf, Of Course!

Who knew film stock was so strong? Lucas Desimone and Matias Resich utilized salvaged movie film as a major component of their wall-mounted shelving system, the VU35, a storage solution which should appeal (and perhaps inspire) photographers and cinephiles...

The shelves are available for about $85, but the designers have been kind enough to share the basic outline of what you'll need and how the shelves were constructed, for reference if you're feeling crafty enough to build your own. All you'll need is a drill, 35mm film, and wood cut to the specs noted above.

Other ideas for old film include:
Cut into strips, discarded film can make a nice bookmark.
Curtains Made Out of Film Strips
DIY Film Slide Curtains

And of course, after you use all the film, you'll want to save and reuse the film reels, as they make for excellent vintage-style decorative element.
