What We’re Loving This Week: Eco Friendly Fashion, “Slipcovers on Acid” And More
Ever wonder what our editors are obsessing over? This week, some of the folks behind Apartment Therapy share their favorite finds, including an eco friendly fashion brand, a colorful twist on a classic lamp, a Milan hotel, and more.
Jinsen Stainless Steel Flatware Set: I’ve had my eye on some new flatware for everyday dining. But the problem is that the styles I’ve been drooling over—modern, sleek, brass—aren’t exactly everyday-priced. That changed when I first spotted this $24 set from Amazon. It comes in a whole bunch of super trendy colors, so you’re sure to find something perfect to set the table with. — Taryn Williford, Lifestyle Editor
Room Mate Giulia hotel by Patricia Urquiola: Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola has brought her trademark cheerful colors and unconventional shapes to every part of this Milan hotel — but this bathroom, with its old-school square wall tile and and contrasting black and red sinks, is my favorite. — Nancy Mitchell, Senior Writer
Sarah Sherman Samuel’s New Wallpaper Line: I’ve been swooning over Sarah Sherman Samuel’s custom pink agate wallpaper ever since I laid eyes on the room the designer and blogger dreamed up for the Christopher Kennedy Compound Show House in Palm Springs earlier this year. So I was giddy to find out that Sarah released that particular design as well as a handful of others via Lulu & Georgia this week. I may not be adding any perma wallpaper to my rental, but a girl can dream, can’t she? — Arlyn Hernandez, Design Editor
Zero Waste Daniel: Fashion designer Daniel Silverstein is in his second act — this one with an inspiring mission to rescue fabric scraps from landfills and turn them into fashion. What began as a single shirt he made for himself by sewing scraps together has grown into a project employing a small team working alongside Silverstein in his Brooklyn shop. “I want to be able to say to people: This is Emily. She’s 25, she lives in New York and she is super passionate about climate change and she deserves a living wage. She made this shirt…It’s not “why is this less expensive?” it’s “this is why this costs this much.” You can shop ZWD in person at the Williamsburg store or online. Who knows, maybe ZWD will branch out into home goods (hint, hint). — Carrie McBride, Managing Editor
Ragmuf Chair Covers: If you love either Nick Cave or Boucherite rugs, you’ll probably love these fantastically colorful chair covers from Scandinavian company Ragamuf. These slipcovers on acid come in two sizes and look like high design, yet are made by Syrian refugees out of surplus textiles. Head over to Ragamuf’s Indiegogo site for introductory pricing. If you choose a multi-colored option, you get to pick the exact one you want from their website. Yes, I ordered one and can’t wait. — Dabney Frake, Projects Editor
Anglepoise + Paul Smith Lamps: I’m of the opinion that everything can be improved by a pop of color (or twenty). So when I spotted the new lighting collab between iconic British brands Anglepoise and Paul Smith, I knew I had to share. Paul Smith’s playful take on hues adorn the timeless Type 75 lamp in three sizes—mini, desk, and giant floor. — Tara Bellucci, News & Culture Editor
