The first time I heard about a white elephant gift exchange (sometimes called Yankee Swap), I thought it sounded crazy. "Wait, you open a gift and then someone can take it from you?" I've always felt that the "winner" wasn't the person who went home with the most sought after gift, but the person who brought the gift that everyone was vying for. And what's the perfect white elephant gift? Something goofy or wacky, possibly tacky, yet still, somehow, highly desirable.

Many people use White Elephant parties to regift strange things they've received or odd objects they have at home, but if you don't have something and need to buy it, here are 10 fun suggestions:

  1. Kitty Egg Mold at Sur La Table ($10)
  2. Queen Elizabeth Dish Sponge at Signals ($12.95)
  3. Tuff Dish Wash Gloves at Fred & Friends ($10)
  4. LATTJO brain hat at IKEA ($9.90)
  5. Otter Tape Dispenser at Office Playground ($12.99)
  6. Blizzard Bay Men's Festive Llama Ugly Christmas Sweater at Amazon ($29.99)
  7. Sponge Worthy Tray at Fishes Eddy ($15.95)
  8. Men's Taco Socks at Uncommon Goods ($10)
  9. Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Tina Fey & Amy Poehler SNL Action Figures at Amazon ($17.25)
