This Website Lets You Peek Out of Windows From Around the World
With most people putting travel plans on hold for the indefinite future due to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s understandable if you’re feeling a bit of wanderlust. If you’re sick of gazing out of your own windows, you’ll want to check out Window Swap, a website that serves up random window views from all over the world—and it might just be the calm, serene escape you need these days.
Here’s how it works: Users from around the world can submit a 10-minute long horizontal HD video from their windows, including sound if they’d like to up the ambiance factor. Then, visitors to the site can click to score a random window view from nearly anywhere in the world, scoping out city skylines in Berlin, Barcelona, or Brooklyn, along with idyllic views from countryside towns in Italy, India, and beyond.
Founders Sonali Ranjit and Vaishnav Balasubramaniam created their “quarantine project” to help “beat lockdown blues,” with Ranjit telling Campaign Asia-Pacific, “Let’s face it, it’s going to be a while before we travel again and wake up to a new view outside our windows. So until then, why not voyeuristically travel by looking out of somebody else’s window for a while?”
The spouses, who live in Singapore, hope the site gives people the chance to “travel without moving for now,” telling Campaign Asia-Pacific, “We hope this way of ‘traveling without moving’ will give the world as much joy as it has given us.”
Whether the new view gives you inspiration for your post-pandemic travel itineraries or simply gives you a few moments to enjoy a brand new view, it’s definitely a peaceful way to virtually escape without packing your bags or passport.
