Universal Finally Revealed the Opening Date for Their Newest Harry Potter Ride and It’s So Soon
It is official! The next ride to hit Universal Orlando’s Wizard World of Harry Potter has been unveiled. For the last year, people have been speculating what exactly would replace the closed Dragon Challenge and many theories have been thrown around. Now, some of those theories have been proven to be true!
The next ride to open at Universal will be Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. The ride will take the place of the Dragon Challenge in the WWoHP, on the Islands of Adventure side of Universal. It’s located in the Hogsmeade area of the Potter park, so many people assumed the new ride would potentially involve the Forbidden Forest. After Universal released a teaser image of the new roller coaster in October 2018 (without Hagrid in the photo), people doubled down on the theory that the ride would take people through the forest. Now we know for sure, the ride will travel into the forest, with our beloved Keeper of Keys and Grounds and professor of Care of Magical Creatures, Rubeus Hagrid, as the tour guide. Universal released the name of the new ride on Twitter:
For the first time ever, join Hagrid™ as you fly far beyond the grounds of Hogwarts™ castle on a thrilling roller coaster ride that plunges into the paths of some of the wizarding world’s rarest magical creatures.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure will open on June 13, 2019, which is almost exactly nine years after the Wizarding World of Harry Potter first opened at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Ever since the Dragon Challenge closed in September 2017, it was reported that a new, bigger and better ride would replace it. Fans of Universal knew that the Dragon Challenge ride hadn’t been original to the WWoHP, it was, in fact, an older Universal ride that had been repurposed to fit the Harry Potter theme.
This new ride is being touted as Universal’s most incredibly themed rollercoaster at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Draco Malfoy himself, A.K.A. Tom Felton, and the art director the Harry Potter films, Alan Gilmore, took to Twitter with Syfy for Universal to further tease the new ride. Right now, there aren’t many details on what the ride entails, but we’re anxiously waiting to see more news.
