Zaria Forman's Whale Bay, Antarctica No.4

I have been following Zaria Forman’s work for over a year now, and when I found out she had a studio in Brooklyn I knew I simply had to try to get the chance to meet her — and in July a relationship between Zaria and Apartment Therapy was born! Over the past few months our video team and myself were given the chance to watch and record this immense canvas from its installation to its completion, and it has been a truly incredible experience. I’m so excited for you to see this transformation.

In case you’re not familiar with this brilliant pastel artist, Zaria is known for her larger-than-life pastel canvases of arctic scenes in which she captures the beauty and the crisis of our planet’s melting glaciers. Her process begins at the source — photographs she herself takes on her travels to the Arctic — which she then renders with unbelievable detail onto her canvas. But I will stop blabbing and let this gorgeous time-lapse speak for itself!

For more information about Zaria, check out her website or follow her on Instagram @zarialynn — I can guarantee that she is someone you need to know! At this very moment she is flying high with NASA and their scientists over Antarctica, where she is taking her first bird’s-eye view photographs of the icebergs. I cannot wait to see how this new perspective inspires her work!
