Did you know that Trader Joe’s, besides being our readers’ hands-down favorite grocery store, is also a fantastic place to shop for vegetarian groceries and goodies? Here are 10 of my favorite vegetarian-friendly picks at Trader Joe’s.

1 / 11
  1. Riced Broccoli, $2.50 for 16 ounces: Broccoli-lovers, rejoice! Your favorite veggie now comes in “grains” just like cauliflower rice. It can be found in the produce section and can be used in all the same ways as the white stuff.
  2. Masala Veggie Burgers, $2.50 for four: I love to keep the freezer stocked with homemade veggie burgers, but when that’s not an option, these spiced burgers are the next best option. The patties are packed with potatoes, carrots, peas, corn, bell pepper, and plenty of warm, fragrant spices.
  3. Beet Hummus, $2.30 for seven ounces: You already know that Trader Joe’s doesn’t disappoint when it comes to snacking, and this earthy-yet-sweet hummus is just further proof. Just pick up some veggie sticks or pita chips for dipping.
  4. Frozen Falafel, $3.70 for 12: Found in the freezer section, these three-bite falafel patties are the trifecta of convenient, economical, and delicious. Add them to a salad, stuff them in a pita with hummus, or use them to bulk up a grain bowl.
  5. Soy Chorizo, $2 for 12 ounces: Sourced from a company that specializes in chorizo, this meatless sausage is packed with the same bold spices found in the traditional version. And as you’d expect from Trader Joe’s, it comes at a great value.
  6. Steamed Lentils, $3 for 17 ounces: Found in the produce section, these protein-rich steamed French lentils are all about convenience. They’re cooked with a touch of seasoning, leaving them with a really nice flavor that doesn’t fall flat.
  7. Frozen Organic Kabocha Squash, $2.70 for 16 ounces: Gone are the days of lugging home heavy squash that require lots of prep — this is a much more convenient way to get your fill. Frozen in a little baggie, it’s your solution to getting winter squash year-round.
  8. Superfood Pilaf, $4 for 16 ounces: In the freezer section, this is one of those special products you’ll only find on the shelves of Trader Joe’s. What is it? It’s a mix of tricolor quinoa, sweet potato chunks, carrots, and kale. Serve this pilaf on its own, top it with an egg, or stuff it into a baked sweet potato.
  9. Mixed Nut Butter, $6 for 12 ounces: Can’t decide between peanut, almond, or cashew butter? Now there’s no reason to! A relatively new addition to Trader Joe’s lineup of nut butters, this option combines a full-flavored, unsweetened mixture of almonds, cashews, walnuts, Brazil nuts, and pecans.
  10. Pesto and Quinoa, $2.50 for 10 ounces: This intriguing jarred combo is just what it sounds like: a mix of quinoa and basil pesto in one package. Spread it on a sandwich, stir into soups and salads, or use a spoonful to make scrambled eggs, omelets, and frittatas pop.

Your turn: What are your favorite vegetarian finds from Trader Joe’s?
