We love white distilled vinegar. We don't love the way it smells. But we love it. It's pretty cheap, it's non-toxic, environmentally-friendly, and you can use it to do (literally) like a thousand things in your home.
We just stumbled on this ridiculous website VinegarTips.com—a website where you can find 1,001 things to do in your home with vinegar.
They've got cleaning tips (vinegar makes a cheap tile and grout cleaner) and laundry tips (use it as a stain remover). They've even got things you can do with vinegar to clean your car, to use in your garden, to use on your pet, to use while cooking, and even to use for your own personal health.
We're running out to Costco to buy an industrial-sized jug right now. The mind is reeling at all the possibilities. What do you do with vinegar?

I use distilled vinger for so many things, but a 1001? I must check that website!
The 3 things I use it for most are:
1. As a rinse after shampooing my hair (I'm in an area with really hard water) - the smell goes away when I blowdry
2. Spray it on furniture and carpets after a party before I go to bed, in the morning the smells are gone
3. to descale taps, the shower door and the windows that I keep forgetting to do ;o)
As gross as it tastes, a tablespoon or two can help heartburn (your stomach's not too acidic, it's under-acidic).

My favorite use for vinegar is as a color setting agent. You pour some in with a brand new shirt and it will set the color and help it to last longer. I have scrubs from two years ago that still look vibrant due to a little vinegar with the detergent the first time I washed them.
EvaInNL, there's only 192 suggested uses on that website and one of those is to say what NOT to use it on (marble... which makes sense!) soo, you're probably aware of most of their suggestions already... It's still a great little site although, perhaps too much contact with fermented corn alcohol can affect a person's ability to count!
We put it in the washer (in the fabric softner area) when we wash athletic clothes (dry-fit..). Since we've done this, they smell a lot better.
I use white vinegar in most laundry loads in the fabric softener holder (and put baking soda directly with the load)- now my towels always smell fresh. It keeps the bathrooms nice & sparkling clean (also using baking soda). Plus, it's fun to make volcanos....
I use it to clean too, but I have to agree, it's mostly for the volcanos. Cleaning your sink is boring, but VOLCANOS cleaning your sink is a whole different story.
1. Fantastic in a marinade for all meat to increase tenderness.
2. Use as a rinsing agent in the dishwasher.
3. With baking soda & salt, clean inside of vases with narrow necks. Let it sit, then swish.
4. Removes pet smells (including urine) from furniture (test first).
I'm sure I'm forgetting much more, but let's say there's always a gallon jug in my pantry.
Vinegar hair rinse all the way! I always dilute the vinegar with the coldest possible water. It makes my hair noticeably shiny, and it's super cheap.
I run 1/3 vinegar, 2/3 water through my coffee maker twice, then a full pot of water through the coffee maker to clean deposits.
Take a baggie & rubber band...pour some vinegar in it, & place baggie onto faucets or shower heads. Secure baggie with rubber band around faucets or shower heads, let soak for a couple hours, then scrub w/ an old toothbrush. Deposits disappear quickly.
Great cleaner (aka volcano!) for garbage disposal--throw baking soda down there, then vinegar...cold water rinse when done foaming.

I just used it to clean mold off all the shoes in my closet.
Maybe it's all in my mind, but I find that a spoon full of vinegar in a glass of water seems to boost my metabolism. I may be tired at the end of the day, but not a dragged-out, oh my god i'm gonna die tired!
