The clear glass desk is a perfect solution for the small space home office. For starters, it practically disappears from the eye line, keeping the room from appearing overstuffed with furniture. And no matter how dark the room or surrounding furnishings, a transparent desk adds a light, modern touch to the space. If you're a fan of the look, check out our roundup of clear desks after the jump…

White Enamel Four-P...
Where is that beautiful black chair from? I NEED it.
From the tour- The 1970's black leather lounge chair purchased at the Brooklyn Flea.
Really nice looking if you can keep it clean! But the post should come with a warning: every fingerprint and smudge shows up and if you're at all like me in your almost-ocd-need for order & cleanliness at home, glass & acrylic will drive you totally NUTS!
I have a glass coffee table and it just doesn't get that many finger prints on it. I suppose a desk would get more. But we don't have kids.
Thanks!
Acrylic is so prone to scratches, I can't imagine wanting furniture made out of it. You also have to be careful what you clean it with or you can ruin it completely.

The chair in the foreground of top photo? That is a vintage Homecrest swivel rocker. I sold a similar one not too long ago but in brown vinyl. When looking for one don't be fooled by a seller who thinks it's a Bertoia design or something.
Ha- this is exactly what I came to say! I made the mistake of having an acrylic coffee table (now scratched beyond belief just six months later) and a glass desk (a magnet for dust, smudges and fingerprints). I'm moving home shortly, and it's safe to say that neither will be coming with me!
Sorry to be a realist, but how do you hide the cords (imac & radio in pic 3, etc)? and how do you plug in a lamp when they are in the middle of the room? (pics 1 and 4)
See-through furniture should be kept as empty as possible. Cords will show unless you are on battery, papers and "stuff" piled on top make it opaque and totally defeat the se-through functionality. If you can't life that neatly, this solution won't BE a solution.
I'd have a floor lamp, battery operated laptop, or charger/cable hidden by a nearby curtain or plant, and little if nothing else. Anything else should be kept in a cabinet elsewhere. Glass is usually more durable than plastic, but also heavier and more prone to shattering.
I'm more comfortable with opaque (wood) furnishings, myself.
Had a glass one, broke it when moving. Replaced it with a colored lucite, and within a few weeks it got nasty cloudy looking. Next one will be wood or metal!
Speaking of glass tables, Ikea has a really nice and extremely reasonably priced laptop table that I lust after:

I keep thinking if I had the space, I'd add it to my workspace area. But I already have a beautiful Danish rosewood secretary and don't have the space for this additional worktable.
Every time I look at it though, I fantasize about a very minimal small work surface that is always clean for just a laptop and maybe a notebook/planner.
The Vittsjo even has brackets for one wire/cable, though how many office setups now only need one wire/cable????
Made an account just to say: Um, if you're not taking them home, can I buy them from you? Pretty please? Are you in NY?
