Here’s a small space that’s both beautiful, and, thanks to some creative furniture choices, incredibly functional. This apartment’s main room can serve, by turns, as an office, a living room, a bedroom, or a dining room with a table that seats six.

Michael Kristensen, a creative director who splits his time between Copenhagen and Bangkok, fell in love with the apartment when he first saw it, but he knew it would take some creative solutions. Michael loves to entertain, a feat which is made possible, even in a 430 square foot apartment that’s essentially just one room, by a custom-built sofa that stretches all the way along one side of the room. His dining table seats six but can be easily rolled out of the way when it’s not needed.

When he’s not having friends over, the main room functions as Michael’s office, as well. A consistent palette of black, white, and dark blue gives this multi-functional room a lovely cohesiveness.

At night, one half of the custom sofa opens up to reveal a bed. The other half has storage for linens and out-of-season clothes.
