Q: I'm not on the computer all day, but I do sit in front of a laptop long enough each evening to realize it's been adding to the muffin top-itis. I wanted to try working for those few hours standing, but the cool standing desks you've posted are kind of pricey and take up a lot of room. Is there an "entry level" standing desk you could recommend for a tiny apartment dweller on a budget?

Editor - Just last month, Michelle shared her $30 standing desk, which is easy to put together for a small space if you've got an IKEA close by. And there are quite a few DIY solutions ready to inspire you.
Pre-made solutions are a little pricier, especially if you're trying to avoid some shoddily made product that could tip over or simply fall apart. The OFM Multipurpose Split-Level Stand was designed as presentation/podium solution, but also works as a standing design, since you've got to separate platforms for document and laptop placement; it looks fairly well made, like a optimized drafting table. It's $72.99, so not as cheap as the IKEA solution above, but neither a bank buster if you're looking for something to use for a few years, but that can easily hide away while not in use.

Many of my colleagues purchased powered adjustable desks (very pricey), but I like my Ergotron Work Fit desk attachment a lot (under $500; I ordered mine from Amazon). It allows me to adjust from sit to stand one-handed. No motor. No noise. It has held up well over the last year, and I expect to use it for years to come. I believe Ergotron is a Minnesota-based company but am not sure if the product was made in the U.S. Here is a link to their info: http://www.ergotron.com/WorkFit/tabid/65/language/en-US/default.aspx?FID=44
A cheap solution: the table of ironing. Surely you have one.
Or you can buy an ironing board like this:

You could use a bookshelf and just put your computer on top of that. I remember reading that Ernest Hemingway liked to work standing up - saw a picture of him standing in front of a bookshelf, typing away on his typewriter.
