Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: My front-of-house project has been a very slow, but very rewarding one. When we bought the house two years ago, it had awnings a shade of green that even a green-lover like me couldn't live with.
Earlier on Apartment Therapy, the Chamberlains shared their Nickel Tile Floor — but the unique flooring choice in their new master bathroom is just a small part of the overall picture: Our project, while considered an "addition" by our city, was actually quite a major undertaking. In December 2010, we completely demolished our 1950's daylight basement rambler down to the foundation. The design of our new home (currently unfurnished, we are still in the process of moving in) uses the footprint of our old rambler, but in a much more efficient manner.

Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: Our balcony is quite small (6x11 feet) but I was determined to create a personal garden space while living in the city. The view is a wonderful panoramic of Philly's financial district high-rises, and I wanted a balance between that metal and glass beauty with a natural, green peacefulness. In The Girl Who Played with Fire — the second book of best-selling Millennium Triology by Stieg Larsson — the character Lisbeth Salander moves into a new apartment and goes shopping at IKEA — a rather mundane activity that IKEA fans will enjoy as they recognize specific product names and remember some of the discontinued products that are missed.
This project was completed by some regular readers from Seattle: "In March 2010, I came upon the ever-popular Penny Tile floor post on your site. At the time, we were in the process of renovating our 1950s rambler and I was unsuccessful in finding a contractor to complete a concrete overlay (thin-set concrete) design on our master bathroom floor. A standard flooring option just wasn't what we were envisioning for this space…"
Among all the fixtures, faucets, plumbing and potties at KBIS — the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show — there are some noticeable trends. As I filtered through all the kitchen and bathroom commotion in Las Vegas this week, here are the three trends that stood out:
