After I walked up the steep-ish, ample stairs to the front door of Drew and Mindy's house (greeted along the way by Winnie Cooper!), I walked in and remembered why it's so much fun to be a house tour blogger. I was instantly smitten with their delightful, beautifully curated home (and their dog, but that's another story).

I know this tour is a bit of a departure from standard Apartment Therapy fare. It's roomier, lake-ier, and more traditionally decorated than the average tour. But it happens to be my favorite house in the world and a place of peace. So I finally decided it was time to share it.

It was a dark and rainy June day when I was scheduled to photograph Audrey Goldstein and Mark Diamond's Newton home. But when I drove up to their house and was greeted by their playful orange front door, flanked by orange railings, I knew, despite poor photographic lighting conditions, that spending time in their home would be a bright delight. And it sure was.

It's fun enough to be around one homeowner who beams with delight and pride for her home. But when it's a couple and it's apparent that they equally love their home and they genuinely share an aesthetic without much need for compromise, it's even sweeter. Such is the case at Sarah and Craig's delightful treetop home.

It's such a refreshing pleasure to visit a home where people are living large in a smaller place, figuring out creative ways to maximize their space. Danielle, a sculptor / curator / teacher, and Derek, a woodworker turned Photovoltaic Project Manager, have applied their keen aesthetic eye and hands-on skills to creating a really cozy, inviting haven in the city.

Since most of my house tours for Apartment Therapy are condos, I love the opportunity to check out sweet single family homes, like Dana and JB's place in Milton. This petite gem includes a surprising DIY crown jewel — an enviable garage-turned-art studio for Dana. The studio is also rumored to host summertime dinner parties!
