Nomade Express Slee...
One problem with this post: lack of solutions for boots. I loooove boots but they are a little more tricky when it comes to organizing.
Great Ideas! I am always looking for shoe and bag ideas...
@clara Valse- I just leave my boots lined on the floor and put empty wine bottles in them to keep them from falling down. Works like a charm!
Most of these have the same problem as open kitchen cabinets--dust. I want my dress and purses to stay nice for years, so they need to be in enclosed storage. I don't think these are very practical suggestions.
*dress SHOES and purses*
@ClaraValse: Have you tried using pant/skirt hangers to hang them on the bottom row of your closet?
Oh! Pallet! Yes! This would totally work at the back of the bottom of my closet! Thank you! I was beginning to despair about disorganized shoes forever.....
Not a fan at all of any of the shoes out in the open on shelves or in bookcases, and certainly not kept in an open full wall-length headboard. Nor am I a fan of hanging purses on a wall like in photo 1, bottom row. Purses are not wall art (IMHO) and shoes are not vases (besides the dust, I imagine the joy of a large, hairy spider who might happen upon a pair of heels not used in several months). Somehow both the design and fashion elements become mundane or pedestrian to me when I see them stored in these ways. We wear shoes and carry bags. Keeping them stored neatly in closets and or drawers would definitely keep the dust off of them and unclutter our living spaces. Of course, to each her/his own...
What does one do when their particular collection of shoes and bags is NOT attractive. My ancient sneakers and cross body bags would look TERRIBLE on display and my closet is exactly 47 inches across for EVERYTHING so something like this would not fit inside. Right now the shoes are in a fabric bin (literally TOSSED in) and the bags (other than my current daily bag) are in the donate pile...sigh...
I can't wait to show my husband #s 5, 7, 8 and 11 to remind him of how lucky he is to have a wife like me.
haha, the picture of handbags that are hung by the staircase is so obnoxious!! In a really good way though. I love it!!
You can also use sawed-off pool noodles inside boots, to keep them from flopping over.
Mary E. I am totally with you! We walk through all sorts of crap with our shoes (especially in the city) and having them right next to ones bed....YIKES!
Find a great way to store and HIDE them I say.
Glad that I'm not one who finds disgusting placing shoes close to your bed, specially on the side where is your pillow... Even if you have nice smelling feet and shoes, what about the germs under the soles? Yuck!
I'm a big shoe and bag hoarder and I found a few tricks for storing that you may find helpful:
1)Stuff your bags with tissue paper to help keep their shape. Then stack them in one of those fabric shelf systems that loop over the clothing rod in the closet
2) Same thing for boots: it helps to stuff them with tissue paper so they stay upright
3) Always store shoes toe-to-heel to fit more on the shelf
4) Storing shoes in their boxes makes it easy to stack them AND you can place a picture of the shoes on the outside of the box to ID them
5) If possible, try keeping like with like i.e. boots with boots, black shoes with black shoes etc. It makes getting dressed in the mornings easier
6) Donate, donate, donate. When something is out of style or you haven't worn it in more than 12 months, it's time to find it a better home
Sleeping with all of those dirty shoe soles next to the head of the bed is kinda yicky.
shoe headboard yuck!
I second Mary E. and a few others above me. Unless these shoes don't get on the pavement, they are NOT ART. The handbags are NOT ART, either, especially in a small crampy space. The open display only adds to visual chaos. In my small apartment, I keep them out of sight (in am Ikea shoe closet, in behind-door shoe racks, and my handbags stuffed and in dust bag on the shelf in the closet).
I also agree with lg1boston that purging is vital. Consign or donate items you no longer fit, wear, or love to free up space for new items.
I have never understood the obsession with shoes and purses. I have 7 pairs of shoes including winter boots and 3 purses. All of them are neutral and at least 3 years old. Yes, it's boring but I don't need to worry about creating a special place for them as they all fit in a drawer in a walkin closet which also houses my husbands clothes and a complete laundry facility. Out of season items are cleaned and packed away in a box until needed. We have better things to spend our money and time on than buying and organizing shoes and purses.
Odd that none of these are really space saving. They are very organized, but take up a lot of space.
What I mean is...having your shoes lined up like that...each in it's own cubby. Very space consuming.
A year or so back there was a DIY of a shelf that you could put in your entry way. It was very clean lined-two boards held together by an L shaped bracket. The toes of the shoes went in and kind of hung in a cantalievered like fashion. I'd DIY something like that and line the entire bottom of your closet with that instead of any of these.
I created a "console" of shoe cabinets in the bedroom to hold about 16-20 pairs of shoes. Hope that helps...

I LOVE the 7th photo. But I don't understand how people keep their shoes looking so pretty. The second my shoes come near my broad flat feet they stretch, and I constantly stumble over my feet scuffing my shoes (wow, don't I sound like a catch!). I've got all the big names and coloured soles that would look perfect in a gorgeous cabinet, but it would look more like something from the ugly step sister than Cindarella. Do these people just not wear their gorgeous shoes?
Recently, I saw a tv show about inventors in which one woman had come up with a pocket thing you put UNDER a bed skirt -- pockets all around, so you could store something like 20 pairs of shoes around a queen-sized bed, all tidily hidden under the bed skirt of your choice. I really wish I could buy one of those.
Absolutely stellar...now, can we have one for the Gentlemen? Day bags are a reality - and cole haan appears to be taking over my mini closet in a hostile fashion.
cheers.

I have a lot of shoes and boots. Most of them live in two STÄLL cupboards from Ikea in my hallway. As i had a nook at the end of the hallway, i ordered a custommade closet, with a big bottom drawer that fits all my boots. You can see both storages here:http://www.36metres-carres.com/?p=270
Wine bottles and sawed-off pool noodles in boots? Rolled up magazines work really well and are easier and ....less weird.
