When Brooke and Luke found out they were expecting a baby boy, they decided to turn their office into a nursery. The problem was, it felt like more of a "man room" than a little guy's nursery with its dark, knotty pine walls. So Brooke and Luke decided to roll up their sleeves and work a little magic with primer and paint. It was a lot of work, but the end result is stunning:

White Enamel Flatwa...
Lovely!
Well worth the effort. Looks great!
such a sweet room!
This is a perfect nursery. I love everything, especially the color palette. I also need to save this post and show it to people who are so terrified of knotty pine paneling. Painting it actually makes for more texturally interesting walls.
That is so cute my teeth hurt. I especially love the Fox plate!
OH thank god you didn't rip out the knotty pine and just painted over it.
Lovely color scheme! I especially like the mobile and the collection of art (I've always loved red foxes, trendy or not).
From experience, it is so laborious to unwhite beautiful wood than to paint it white. Might as well ripped it out. Nice nursery, but should have been done in an ordinary room.
amazing, a favorite.
Having lived with such panneling, I think this turned out beautifully. Pay no attention to the naysayers. Homes are to be lived in, not maintained in their original state like museums.
Love it!!!
why did you paint that wood!!!
Because they wanted to.
Aww! I can't stop thinking Awwww.
Where did you find the moose head? It's fantastic!
Oof old paneling can be so hard to work around without ripping it out. You could have ripped it out, that would be most people's reaction, but instead by painting you added so much more charm to the room. I love it. I'm surprised some people are upset about the wood, really people still like that all over paneling. Knotty paneling? wow.
Ok I want my adult bedroom to look this good
We had a knotty pine den two homes ago, and I totally understand why you painted. Your space turned out very serene and what a difference! Good luck with your new baby!
I am so glad you did not rip it out. It is really charming to see the ridges of wood beneath that serene gray. What a perfect room. I love how gender neutral it is too.

hahah I knew someone would complain about you painting the wood.... It looked ugly! Now it's lovely, well done
I love the transformation, and I love the painted wood. It looks so much better to my eye than before, particularly for a child's room. But, that's just me.
While I respect everyone's aesthetic tastes (even ones I don't share), I'm growing weary of the whole "you should have done this, should have done that." No.
This is not your space, people. By all means, have an opinion, but don't take someone else's space so darn seriously that you can't see the fact that these people have opened their home to us for DESIGN'S SAKE.
A little perspective is in order.
Gives me an idea of what my dining room ceiling could look like if I painted it. For some gods unknown reason the original owner put tongue-and-groove panelling/flooring up on the ceililng. It sucks up all the light in the room.
Lovely! We have the same crib (but in cherry) and the same dresser in our nursery and we love them both. This is one of the most functional seeming nurseries I've seen on AT and it's so cute!
This looks so gorgeous. Beautiful job! But I'm genuinely confused as to how anyone could think the allover knotty pine sauna/ski lodge look from before was better, especially for a NURSERY. Oof.
This is one of my favorite baby rooms ever, nice job.
Love everything about it!!
Love love love it. Colors, foxes, textures ... all of it!
There is nothing in this room that is not perfect. I mean, even the knobs on the dresser are perfection. The rocking moose, the lantern, the little red table. And yeah, the walls and ceiling. It's all perfectly perfect. You are awesome. Congrats on little E!
This is one of my favorite nurseries ever featured on here. Perfection!
Knotty pine is ugly as sin. You did a great thing by painting over it. It looks wonderful.
Love this nursery, it turned out great! I also like knotty pine, yes, even in a baby room. It all depends on what else you do with the room. Another alternative to painting a solid colour is pickling the knotty pine. You get a nice clean whitish look but retain a bit of the wood feel. Not for every situation but a nice compromise.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I want to be a baby in that nursery!!!!!!!!!!!!! he will LOVE it!!!
Such relaxing and peaceful colors. I love everything about this room.
Because it's their house to make it a home that works for THEIR family!
Gorgeous! I am not a fan of paneling but LOVE when it is painted. This nursery is sooo sweet. What a great place for a little one to dream.
Adorable!
I love all the home-made pillows and crib skirt - the best way to make a baby's room special. And we share your love for chevrons over at Dream Child Organics!
The little closet nook is super cute ... but I think future plans may require some more storage rather than more play space. Babies accumulate a LOT of stuff (I have hand-me downs stored in stacked boxes for all future/outgrown sizes).

THANK YOU for using my fabrics in your fantastic nursery! I think it's beautifully done. I love gray & white myself, so this is about as pretty as it gets!
For anyone wanting the fabric or similar, please check out my store at Spoonflower: http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/mrshervi

Thanks again :)
So sweet! The moose head looks like it might be from Anthropologie? They had one at one point-- a charming detail, anyhow. Good luck with the baby! Redo-ing the room was the easy part. ;) But you'll spend lots of time in there with the little guy, and you'll both totally love it... even at 3 am.
Fantastic redo, it's very calm and relaxing (not that it'll make the new little one any quieter or sleepier, as they have their own agenda).
The room is lacking for nothing...except.....SQUIRREL!
Must have Moose and Squirrel together (said in Russian accent). Otherwise Fearless Leader would be very disappointed.
As much as it pains me to see the knotty pine go (I know, I know, *I* am that one person who likes wood paneling), I really love the room.
Source for the prints??? I don't see them on the blog. I particularly would like to know about the Portland bridge print.
That is simply awesome. If I ever buy a house with paneling, I will show this to my husband and we will paint it instead of removing the paneling. Well done!
Looks great. Amazingly cozy. I love that the paneling added texture and depth to the walls. My first instinct would have been to rip it out- now I know better.
grey + white is such a winner, for any age.
I like the end result.
Our new daughter's nursery is cedar T&G on all four walls and the ceiling, with circular sawn fir floor! We won't paint it, but I don't begrudge somebody that would.
So pretty. I love the look of painted paneling. Sometimes I wish my house had some good ol' knotty pine, just so I could paint over it... and infuriate a few knotty pine lovers. ;)
I SO want to paint my basement knotty pine! We have a wainscoting, so to keep the wood people happy, I think I would not paint the wainscotting, only the horizontal planks on the upper walls and ceiling, leaving the wainscotting untainted.
I really like the way the wall paneling turned out painted with it being horizontal! It's making me wish I had some wood paneling somewhere in my house to paint. Great color palette too!
I like everything but the custom painted moose from ikea: awesome!
Thanks @MrsHervi for the link. The fabric valance over the window is one of my (many) favorite elements. I also love the paper cranes over the changing pad. This room is so peaceful. What a great transformation!
A lovely and bright room. Nice work!
I have acres of knotty pine boards in a chevron pattern -- walls, high ceiling, and sleeping loft (used for storage). This is the first time I've considered painting the wood, probably because it would take the rest of my life. This room is gorgeous.
I clicked through just to see how many people mpwere bemoaning painting the ugly panelling. Love the after!
Love this so much!!!! Our first home had a knotty pine dining room; wish I had known I could have painted it then, but I was young and inexperienced.
Someone needs to tell them to take the pillow and stuffed toys out of the crib. Increased chance of crib death.

@spamdrew
There's statistically a very slim chance of crib death (damn near impossible) when there's no baby in the crib. Pretty sure I read that somewhere.
Knotty pine really does suck up light, I think black holes consist of knotty pine (and the knots also work really well as camou for spiders, I know from experience).
Lovely room with delightful colorful accents. Congratulations on all fronts!
P.S. @ernern Hilarious and snarky! Can we be friends?
"Ordinary" is so boring.
