Back in 2009, FLOR launched this Lincoln Park location as their first foray into brick and mortar retail. Since then, FLOR has launched stores in a number of other cities across the country. Now they’re turning their attention back to home base and giving their Chicago store a new look.

The new layout feels more modern while also giving the store a homier vibe.  Gone are the old white concrete floors and walls lined with tiny samples. In their place are warm hardwood floors, a new “front desk” and more divided sampling areas.

Of all the changes, the most striking introduction for the new layout is the vertical rugs. While the old store layout relied on printed posters to get the designs up at eye level, now the actual product is right at arm’s length. When you first walk in and see a blue on blue chevron rug, you just want to walk over and touch it. It draws you to it in a way that a printed image doesn’t.

There’s still plenty of room around the store to experiment with designs and layouts directly on the floor. Having the hardwood floors where there used to be white concrete makes it easier to picture the rugs in your own home. After all, how many of us live with white concrete floors?

After being closed for a few weeks for the overhaul, the store recently reopened for business. FLOR is also hosting a grand re-opening, with food, drinks and crafts, on May 16th.
