When David found this drab little dresser, he immediately had a vision of a kid-friendly makeover involving chalkboard paint. That plan lasted right up until he had a conversation with his sister, a mom of three who was not a fan of the idea of chalk dust anywhere near her kids clean clothes. David immediately switched gears and came up with a wonderful backup plan involving vintage graphics he found online.

Obviously this dresser is no stranger to owners who like to DIY since the top was already covered in this...colorful...shelf paper when David found it.

Thankfully, David's own paper choice is vastly superior to that long ago effort. A fresh coat of light paint helps to brighten the dresser as do the drawer fronts decoupaged with printouts of vintage postcards. This would be a great addition to the bedroom of anyone who dreams of travel and adventure, and is a nice reminder that a piece of furniture can serve as a piece of art in a room.

Luv it
Oh, what fun!!
Charming!
Oh how cute is that!! Agree w/CHESTERANDTRUDY; mademe smile.
Great alternative to David's original idea -- chalk board paint needs to go away now. This is delightful.
I liked the "before" better. (haha, kidding, it looks awesome!)
wonderful!!!
I love it! It's so personalized and unique.
How clever and attractive! That would be a wonderful way to showcase all of the postcards we've purchased and received over the years: the colorful & the quirky ones we bought for ourselves, ones from friends and loved ones we can't bear to toss, special stamps & postmarks.
Nicely done. Personalized very charmingly.
I love it. Such a brilliant idea. I love the green wall, too.
That's delightful - and definitely a better direction than the chalkboard paint.
This is a great idea. However, if you glue paper directly to wood, it will end up rippling as the wood expands and contracts when the humidity level changes in the room with the seasons. You can minimize this by sealing the wood completely with oil-base primer, acrylic varnish, or polyurethane but you might still get some rippling over time.
The paper should be sealed after applying, too. Clear acrylic varnish is good for this.
AHHHHHH HOW CAN YOU PAINT WOOOOOOOOD!!!!!
Just thought I would beat the Wood Crazies to their inevitable punch :P
I actually think It looks fantastic and really original. Such a lovely way use vintage postcards!
What a cool idea! I love it!
So fun and cute!
That's very cute!
crazylady is apparently, well...crazy. No one is going to scream about painting over crappy wood and you know it [rolleyes][/rolleyes]
Keeping my fingers crossed the chalkboard paint trend fades away. I'm not a huge fan of the finished product, but I am so pleased it didn't end up with silly pointless chalkboard paint. It's a shame some people chose to leave comments trying to insult those who prefer good wood pieces unpainted (they clearly don't grasp when you should and shouldn't paint - this was a perfectly fine piece of furniture to paint).
@sealbeachy: Maybe it's just me, but every time people complain about painted wood on here, I can't help but imagining them typing frantically and flipping out ala Mommie Dearest.
Oh what fun!
This is great! What a fun piece of furniture.
@sealbeachy...
I'm pretty sure crazylady was making a joke. Lighten up.
@sealbeachy - Crazy lady was clearly making a joke, if you took the time to read more than her first line. A joke I thought was funny.
This is adorable! :)
@sealbeachy - I've seen commenters flip out about someone painting cheap pine. Any painted wood on AT is a potential land mine.
I was actually scrolling the comments, waiting for the first "OMG how could you??" comment, so thanks for the laugh @crazylady !!!
I too have always seen projects involving chalkboard paint in close proximity to clothes/beds and all I can picture is chalkdust e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. Your sister was right to veto!
This is a lovely dresser - well done!
Great job. I knew there was a vintage luggage lover behind this :)
@hinmelb @surf jack and @drcourt777 : Glad someone got it! I'd actually love to see an AT post one day that simply says "Painted Wood: DISCUSS." The ensuing comments bloodbath would be hilarious to watch.
Very resourceful and clever idea. That is much more unique than just painting it. Well done.
I have questions! what color brand of green paint is this?? pretty please....
