Yeah, okay, this bedroom is fine. It's got some beds, so it's functional. It's got walls, you know, because you need those. But it lacked pretty much everything else. Until now…

What a transition! Out of nothing, Kelly created this super stylish playroom/studio for her to share with son Aston. Taking advantage of the room's L shape, she created distinct areas for two different functions: her son's playspace takes up the main part of the room, and her desk is tucked around the corner. The handsome decor and fun touches make it suitable for both kids and adults.
Well done Kelly! If you want to see more photos of Kelly's project, pop on over to her blog, Tearing Up Houses.

looks so much brighter now! love it :)
That dresser looks amazing
I don't understand why anyone thinks painting a room weird pale tan is a good idea.
Pi, I think people have the idea that anything non white "hides dirt". Or they honestly like beige. It always looks dirty to me. Better to paint walls with warm white scrubbable paint, IMO.
This transformation is so nice !!!! Love it !!!
Pi : the same reason they paint every room brown or brown-beige with brown furniture l
Definitely worth looking at the blog to see her pianist-child!
I would like to see more pics of this space... desk area, etc...... and I only see one bed now???
Pi, I live in a condo that was painted something called Benjamin Moore Joneseboro Cream. The ENTIRE apartment. The landlady won't let us change it....so I am slowly painting one wall at a time white...

lindarae, this is how it looked before we bought the house. those are the seller's beds. and yellow paint.
I wish I had an awesome extra bedroom to use as an office/playroom. This looks like a great place to work! And play.
@lindarae.nichols, if you click over to her blog, she has a lot of pictures there.
Lovely space!
We also just purchased a house that had a layout we loved however both the walls and ceilings were painted a similar browinish-yellow/tan color. Brown walls, Brown Ceiling, Brown carpets, Brown kitchen cabinets... 2 months later we have painted the ceilings white, the walls a neutral grey, all the kitchen cabinets are now white, installed wood floors and updated the fixtures from wrought iron and gold to slightly more modern silver/steel options. We are exhausted but the results were amazing and we are very happy with our choices.
NIIIIIIIIIIIICE!
Pi, my whole house was painted that color when I moved in. The wainscoting, the ceilings, everything! I think they did it for re-sale. They thought the house needed to be "neutral" (to be fair, there are paint drips that show the original colors were probably pretty heinous), but they only succeeded in making the place seem tiny and dirty and dark. Ick.
Anyway, I love how bright and cheery this "after" is. It's inspiring me to finish up my own paint jobs at home :)
I love this. That single photo doesn't do it justice. And the great thing is, it doesn't look like they put in all new stuff. It shows what you can do with a can of paint and artistic arrangement of your existing belongings.
cremedela, the mattress and arm lights are new, but we'd already had many of the pieces. nearly everything we purchased was vintage. even the pendant lights are locally restored period pieces. it's one of my favorite things about the space... i'm glad you noticed.
beautiful update! i love white walls for how bright they make the space and also allow your rugs, blankets, decor accessories, etc to take center stage with color.
looks like a great use of the space for both you and your son, thanks for sharing.
Better. I like it.
Mine was painted some sort of light salmon + beige, including the doors and ceilings! It drove me nuts. Broke down, accepted the fact that I might not get my security deposit back, and painted. I couldn't live with salmony beige ceilings, doors, and walls any longer.
Ugh. My place is still that horrible color. The landlord had it painted right before we moved in, so repainting was out. Grrr....
So this is a room at the head of the stairs, not really a "bedroom"? What a clever and amazing use of space,I love it! And how cute is that baby?!?
