When expecting her first child, Susannah did what many folks do in preparation: convert the extra guest room to a nursery. She clearly enjoyed the process, gathering everything she'd need for her first born from sources from Target to Etsy to Craigslist. You want to see how it turned out? You know what to do…

Susannah did a great job mixing fun and colorful patterns. The spot above the changing table is ready and waiting for a photo of her soon-to-be-born baby boy. More photos from all angles can be found on her blog, Life Behind the Ivy.
Congratulations Susannah!

Commercial Flour Sa...
Very nice. But I have to ask - what is that in the picture over the bed in the "Before"?
I had the same thought as stationeryfiend! Please answer the question everyone is thinking-- are you going to keep the "Come and Take It" condom pic in the nursery? Because I feel like it's very misleading considering the new baby and all. :)
It's a cannon! The Come and Take It flag is a very important part of Texas history -- the Texians (yes, they were called Texians then) were baiting the Mexicans to come and attack in Goliad during the Texas war for independence. You see the reproductions all over the place in Texas. I have a set of napkins with the same emblem :)
That picture is of a cannon. :D I thought the same thing the first time I ever saw it.
More Information
Hehe! I thought it was a joint!
hahaha thought it was a condom too. I wonder how many guests thought so.
Yes, definitely thought that was a condom. And thought that the star was... an orgasm?
No, let's just pretend that it is a condom! It's a good conversation piece. If I were a guest and saw that I'd get a big laugh out of it. I'd take it down though for parents though!
As a Texan I recognized that flag immediately, and I've never thought much of it...but now all I see is a condom! Oh well, it's much funnier now.
Anyway, what a sweet nursery! I love the pattern mixing, and the dresser is beautiful.
I like the nursery. And I also like the cannon/condom poster. Might try to find one for bachelor bro-in-law's birthday!
Nice combination of prints and I absolutely love the Baby Gee.
now he'll never know mommy and daddy were swingers.
Yea i thought it was a joint... ha either way pretty great
lol, it's the 'Come and Take It' flag from the Battle of Gonzales during the Texas Revolution
I grew up in TX and had NO idea what that picture was... I also thought it was a condom!
Ah, someone already commented that it was Gonzales, not Goliad. Yay for Texas history buffs!
I am on board with the condom people, that is what I thought it was. Which I found beautifully ironic as it was then made into a nursery.
cute guest room AND cute nursery. ;)
also thought it was a condom!
I clicked through and must say I love the abacus above the changing table.
Maybe AT could incorporate this into a roundup of subtle, and plausibly deniable, condom art in the home?
I'm only partially convinced it's not a condom. ;)
Nice room redo, though.
Am I the only person who finds the poster odd and unsettling especially after hearing about its history?
Everything about Texas is odd and unsettling.
Yep. Condom. These Texans really needed a designer... ;)
Those curtains are the same as Sarah Richardson used in her sophistico nursery.
Kinda relieved that the condom/cannon poster was in a guest room, not in a living or dining room where more people have chance to see.
Anyway, I love the nursery. The color of the wall, the curtain, the chair and a big giraffe are all great. Especially the "it's a boy" thing hung on the doorknob is cute.
Yeah, it looks like a hand-made reproduction of the original Texas Revolutionary "Come & Take It" flag, so the cannon is not as well-defined as on the current "official" flag (listed as "digital reproduction" on Wikipedia here): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_and_take_it - lots of good history around that flag, and the battle that happened at Gonzales around it. There's also a HUGE version of it flying along the highway you have to go along in Gonzales to get between Austin and Shiner (where the beer comes from).
(Note: and by "good history" I mean "interesting". Part of the many "fun" things learned in mandatory 7th Grade Texas History class.)
I think my Texas History class teacher glossed over the flag.... now I know why! HAH!
Very nice! Love the cherry dresser. I think that guest bed in the before shot needed more pillows hahaha.
Very nice! But I love the Before too.
