Jennifer picked up these chairs last year when she began planning for a dining room makeover. She knew she wanted two armchairs to anchor her dining room set, but wasn't 100% certain how to finish them. As her vision for the space evolved, so too did her vision for these wonderful chairs.

Jennifer stripped the chairs down to the wood frames then spray painted them with Rustoleum Metallic Gold with a top coat of spray poly. She added more padding to the seats and filled in the holes left by the original tufting before covering the seats with a drop cloth. Jennifer also modified the back, reducing the number of button tufts. Her secret tufting weapon? Getting the buttons custom covered by a local upholstery shop- the machine pressed buttons with prong backs made tufting easy. Finally, after adding some extra padding to the back side of the chairs, Jennifer covered them with a colorful accent fabric (Santa Maria Desert Flower by Waverly). The chairs have taken a place of pride in Jennifer's evolving dining room.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Not fond of the before or after.
I do like the graphic pattern on the back but don't care of the black and white pillow with the gold paint. Just doesn't seem to go ... of course that's a personal choice.
Upload pics when you have the dining room complete; that may make a huge difference once you see the room as a whole.
I do appreciate the work that was involved...reupholstering is a bear...
Whoa. Can't wait to see the complete dining room.
What a beautiful job! I especially like the extra stuffing which makes the chairs look very opulent. And the fabric on the back is stunning! A total win.
Not feeling the gold paint, but it really is a nice makeover!
Choice of fabric=lovely,..I too am not a fan of the gold,.A darker stain over the original would have done it for me. Looks like nice execution though.
Love the gold. Love it all. Wish I could visit you and spend time in your dining room. I'd even make a paella.
The gold paint really doesn't do it for me. Reminds me of very bad 70s/80s design (from prersonal experience).
Love it!
Fabric is GORGEOUS!
Wow! Love it!
I agree about the gold paint. Don't love that, but the rest is looovely.
WOW!
Rock 'n' roll!
Thank you so much for this feature, Colleen! We are enjoying our nice comfy chairs and the dining room table, just in time for the holidays.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments!
I don't like the gold paint. It would look better painted black.
I am in love with the after. I would love to do this.
