My room makeover::
When we moved into our house, the basement was dark, dingy, and straight out of the 70's with wall to wall wood paneling and drop ceiling. Previous owners had a cat and you could tell the basement was the cat zone. Carpet had to be removed immediately. We also knew the previous owners had a mouse problem since we found several mouse traps, dead carcasses, and a whole lotta mouse poop up in the drop ceiling. But because of budget constraints, we had to put off a complete gut job for a couple of years and only fix things temporarily. Until now! The basement took 2 months from start to finish and cost $20k. We had the challenge of creating a play room, a TV room, a craft area, and a guest room. So we sourced furniture, hardware, lighting, and other decor from West Elm, Schoolhouse Electric, Rejuvenation, CB2, Land of Nod, Home Depot, Pier1, and Target. We just have a few details left. Would really like to see some oversized black and white photos of our kiddos over there.
My makeover advice::
Save money by doing all of the demo. Outsource professionals for the big things like electrical, drywall, and plumbing. And most importantly, create a design board and a floor plan.
What I love most about my new space::
It's clean, bright, and multi-functional!!
