So many people dream about redoing their kitchen but look at the cost of new cabinets, new counters, new appliances and put it squarely in the one day pile. Thankfully, clever makeovers like this remind us that it's not always about getting more - sometimes it's about doing more with what you have.
By removing cupboards and doors, repainting, making her own curtains, and adding DIY pieces Rita at harbour breeze completely transformed her kitchen for under $200.
I love that Rita kept and modified so many of the original features of the kitchen.
You can see the full makeover including the budget and most stages of the transformation from the dresser makeover to painting the cupboards at harbour breeze.

Amazing what a little bit of paint and time can do! I have a "one day" pile as well!!! The list keeps growing.
too bad those terrible counters couldn't go too
i dont actually mind the counters -- but I'm never a fan of "before" and "after" shots taken from different angles. I need at least one "after" shot from the same angle to make a proper comparison. Great job though
I quite like the counters :)
Your budget makeover is inspiring.
Wow, what a difference! I generally prefer keeping cabinet doors on, but this makeover is a great example of what an improvement taking the doors off can be!
I love inspiring makeovers where the original cabinets are kept. Keep em coming AT!
Great improvement. ...So what happened to the refrigerator?
They have before and after pictures that are from the same angle, but you have to click through the the link.
The fridge apparently moved to the other side of the room. (You can see that at the link too) :)
Really nicely done!
I've become a fan of the 'shelves as upper cabinets' or 'doors off the upper cabinet' look. Certainly it needs to be done well - and I think this kitchen did it REALLY well.
What a difference!
It all depends on what's in your upper cabinets! Tupperware lids and cereal boxes just don't have the same aesthetic.
looks great!
BUT WHERE DID THE FRIDGE GO!?
lovely
what the heck is wrong w/the countertops? looks quite nice to me.
Hmmm not the best
I like the counter as well. It's quite nice, clean and crisp.
I also wonder where the fridge went. Please take before and after photos from the same angle...I can't tell a thing without that.
Heidi!! How can you say 'not the best'?, for less than $200 I certianly couldn't do better. it's very impressive.
I think it looks great as well, actually, I thought the counter top was new too for a minute there, I had to click back and forth a few times to see that it was not changed. It looks nice and fresh. I certainly couldn't do it for under 200 bucks either.
Looks great. Amazing how different the same countertop looks! Congrats!
I have encountered those white cabinet doors with the wooden lip at the top more than once in my rental career and they still give me nightmares.
But I think they have been aptly disguised here, great call on adding the hardware.
