Name: Boston Home Magazine Concept Home
Designer: Hacin + Associates
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Size: 2,180 square feet + 1,000 square feet terrace
Boston Home asked Hacin + Associates — architects of the FP3 loft building — to furnish one penthouse as their 2009 Concept Home. Straying from the usual mishmash, this concept home is like a good mix tape of design: continuity throughout, sprinkled with surprising elements like a pink master bedroom ceiling, giant window graphics, and a glass bubble sculpture over the tub...

As an exercise in blending vintage and contemporary and high and low, this concept home comes across as very chic, but also like a home that was put together over time.
As a showcase of local resources, the designers made good use of many of our favorites including Reside and Machine Age for one of a kind vintage pieces, Lekker and Vessel for tableware and accessories, Dover rugs for vintage and custom carpets, as well as our small cool winner colorTHEORY for much of the painting.
The elegant bench in the entry was a custom collaboration between the architect and 60Nobscot using reclaimed wood. The car collage in the boys bedroom came straight from the architects boyhoood collection. It is these elements as well as surprises like a vegetable garden on the terrace that made the concept home feel fresh and new but also warm and livable. It feels right at home on Apartment Therapy.
To see more detail and more local resources used to create the home, check out the current issue of Boston Home magazine, out now. You can also check out FP3 to see more details on the building and we were told the unit is for sale furnished as you see it here.

The variation in textures makes the place look and feel so decadent.

Question re the phrase, "a good mix tape of design." Is that a new use of the audiophile term mixtape? Or does "mix tape" in this usage have another connotation? Just interested; I have not previously seen the term used in design discussions....

Its a 'concept home' I didn't realise at first. I like that the letters on the wall don't mean anything (to me). When letters spell out a slogan I can't stop myself reading them all the time. Nice place, for a concept.

I see a lot of "high" stuff, but not a lot of "low".
That being said, it is beautiful!

By far, one of THE coolest jobs we have ever had.
A special "thank you" to Rachel Levitt of Boston Home for
inviting colorTHEORY to participate in such a creative
environment.

Amazing art--especially the work by John Guthrie. The FP3 Residences also has an wonderfully curated gallery in the lobby.

Nice, but I guess I'm missing the 'low' part.

The OTHER artwork besides the cool ones by John Guthrie - the big, sweeping, vaporous horizontal piece over the fireplace is by Cristi Rinklin. The Title is, "After the End of the Beginning" (2009)
Artist's website is >> http://www.cristirinklin.com/

Never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I love the green marble in the kitchen.

Majestic, but doesn't feel like home to me. There are many gorgeous details that I'd love to be inspired by though!
The air went out of the balloon in two photos; #6 due to the mess of electrical chords, in #17 due to the toilet seat.
I find the wallpaper in the kids' bathroom fantastic! And the glass bubbles in the master bathroom are extremely beautiful!

the floor to ceiling windows with the red sheer blinds & pastel wall color is absolutely divine. not to mention the positioning of the bed, and the sun's apt position in that photo. quite majestic
