This nursery was a fun labor of love and also a product of my addiction to thrift stores, antique flea markets, IKEA, Craigslist, Etsy, side of the road furniture finds and also digging through our parents' old things for books and vintage toys saved over the years! Its a serious mish-mash of things we love!
We're expecting a little girl this month! We finally got her nursery all put together, and we love it. It's sunny, colorful, and welcoming. We wanted to keep all of the major purchases gender-neutral so we can use them again in the future or pass them along as hand-me-downs, so decided to make the main "girly" part of the room the wall color.
My husband and I knew early on that our kids would be sharing a room for at least a few years. Thankfully, our 1400 square foot condo has two generous bedrooms that provided, we think, ample space for a cool and adequate shared room.
Name: Jasper (7) & Wylie (3) Location: Petaluma, California
When our family moved from Oakland, CA to a small town in Sonoma County last year, we decided to start rooming our two young sons together. I decided to move our then two year old Wylie into a twin bed straight from the crib, and created a little bunk room for them so that their visiting cousins and future sleepover buddies could spend the night.
Name: "Baby Bud" Location: St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada
This is the second time around for our small nursery. When it was revealed that baby #2 was a girl, we initially wanted to repaint and do a complete overhaul. But the blue is so soothing, we decided to update the space with new curtains instead.
Zara is our third child so I had already experienced decorating two other bedrooms prior to her birth. After using bright colors for the 2 other rooms I knew, even before knowing the sex that I wanted this room to have a calm, neutral palette.
When we were expecting we decided not to find out the baby's gender, so in designing the nursery we had to commit to a neutral scheme. Our first find was the Stokke Crib on Craigslist ($200!), so I set out looking for a bentwood rocker to match.
