Name: Kirsten + Josh Krason and son Jett
Location: South Jordan, Utah
Size: 1,500 square feet — owned

After I saw House Call: Kirsten’s Colorful Family Home and Kirsten’s Jazzed Up TV Credenza, I couldn’t wait to see the rest of her house. Just as I expected, her home is equal parts colorful, classic, a little dramatic, and utterly fabulous!

As a frequent reader of Kirsten’s blog, 6th Street Design School, I already knew that she has a fabulous sense of style. Through her blog she’s given us some peeks into the projects she’s working on for clients and I’m always impressed to see the gorgeous rooms she dreams up. Now it’s nice to see how she translates that style to her own space.

I love the pops of color achieved with accessories that Kirsten gives her otherwise mellow rooms. I’m particularly in love with the curtains in her office, where she gets to sit in the cute little ghost chair under a dramatic chandelier. And I think this is the first nursery I’ve ever seen that actually makes me want to be a kid again (or have one of my own). The airplane theme in Kirsten’s son’s room is absolutely adorable without being cutesy.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Eclectic, colorful and transitional

Favorite Element: My office is one of my favorite places in the world.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge was how small our rooms are. My office is like the size of a closet. I keep everything small scaled to help the rooms feel bigger.

What Friends Say: The first thing people say when they walk into my home is how much they love my living room curtains. My friends feel that my house is very “me”! I love that.

Biggest Embarrassment: My master bedroom is still a major work in progress and I still don’t have it exactly how I want it. There is only one window that has curtains because I still haven’t figure out exactly what I want for window treatments.

Proudest DIY: I stenciled a wall in my bedroom. It took me all day but I can’t imagine the room without it. The subtle pattern adds so much to the room.

Biggest Indulgence: I don’t have a lot of expensive things in my home and most of my indulgences are fabric and not furniture. But I did buy my coffee table for myself for Christmas. It was expensive but so so so worth it. I love having such a statement piece in my home.

Best Advice: Don’t worry about the rules! Mix patterns, bring in color and take risks. Your home is your place to experiment and to try new things. Go crazy!
