Micro hotels are having a moment. Popping up in major metropolitan areas around the world, micro hotels are marked by their compact rooms, space-saving design, and lower-than-average rates. Ranging anywhere from 25 to 150 square feet, you can consider micro hotels the tiny houses of the hospitality world. But don’t let the square footage fool you, what these mini hotel rooms lack in size they more than make up for in style, efficiency, and price. Here are six beautifully designed micro hotels that prove our point.

Arlo Nomad

Located in the Murray Hill neighborhood of New York City, the Arlo Nomad is a tiny living fan’s dream. Measuring just 150 square feet, the boutique hotel’s guest rooms offer everything from sophisticated bunk beds to king-bed-sized rooms with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline—as well as a building “bodega” where you can shop for snacks (in lieu of actual room service).

If you aren’t already hip to the concept of capsule hotels, then now’s the time to smarten up. The female-only Nadeshiko Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, is designed with rows of 25-square foot rooms that contain nothing but a bed—but will only set you back about 40 bucks a night.

To save space inside the guest rooms at the Moxy Hotel Times Square in New York, design firm Yabu Pushelberg created custom camping-style furniture. Ranging between 150 to 350 square feet, each of the hotel’s rooms feature sleek, foldaway furnishings such as collapsible chairs and convertible bunk beds designed to cater to the modern traveler.

The Hoxton Paris

Nestled inside a converted 18th century mansion in the 2nd Arrondissement, The Hoxton Paris features 172 small-but-delightful guest rooms outfitted with luxe accents including herringbone floors and copper bath fixtures. And despite the elegant decor, the crowd and vibe at the hotel are just as cool as the rooms.

PUBLIC Hotel New York

Opened in 2017, the PUBLIC Hotel in downtown New York City is lined with gorgeously-designed rooms, most of which measure less than 250 square feet, featuring custom beds with built-in reading lights, soundproofed windows, and blackout shades. Come for one of the hotel’s popular dance parties, but stay for the micro photo ops.

Arlo Soho

Sister hotel to the Arlo Nomad, the Arlo Soho in downtown New York City offers similarly sized micro rooms, furnished in a more modern decor. Along with a trendy rooftop bar, the hotel has the Arlo chain’s signature bodega for any other necessities.
