10 Apps for Planning a Room Layout

10 Apps for Planning a Room Layout

I'm in the exciting and challenging process of searching for a new place to call home. One of the aspects I find the most exhausting is physically visiting each space and trying to imagine how my own furniture would work in the potential space. But thanks to my iPad and a few apps, I've been able to take some of the guesswork out of the process...

Assisting in the process of picking a new home, I've been using the following steps with each potential rental I've been checking out:

1. Check out the space in person (this is useful for multiple reasons, including creating a floor plan if one isn't provided)
2. Create a digital version of the floor plan using a floor planning app, including rooms I can manipulate.
3. Integrate the same set of furniture into each plan/room for review.
Once I do this, it's easy to quickly compare apartments and see which layout works best. Here are some of the apps I've tried for both the iPad and Android tablets:

1. Home Design 3D (iOS), Free & $6.99.
2. Floor Plan Creator (Android), Free.
3. MagicPlan (iOS), Free.
4. Inard Floor Plan (Android), Free.
5. Room Planner by Chief Architect (iOS), Free.

6. Master-Design Furnish (Android), Free.
7. Floorplans (iPad), $9.99.
8. ROOM+ for Tablet (Android), $6.99.
9. Homestyler (iOS & Android), Free.
10. FloorPlanner (Android), Free.
