Genius DIY: A Make-it-Yourself Modular Shelving Display Wall

It can be difficult to find bathroom shelving that’s functional and attractive. If you want it to also be adaptable as your needs evolve, well, now you’re asking for an even taller order. I spotted this lovely and flexible wall of decorative shelving—and you can make it yourself.

Ryan DIYed this smart stylish design idea. Here he shares more details on how it was created:

The construction is simply 1×6 (1″deep, 6″tall) common board, painted. We used a nail gun at every stud behind the boards (every 16”). Then, we spaced the boards at 1/8”, which is the thickness of the aluminum “shelves” I bought at MetalsDepot.

We used the aluminum to space each board from the top of the wall to the floor. We used aluminum because it’s light weight metal, which means there is less weight on the boards.

The shelves are just shoved in the 1/8” spaces, so more weight would cause more sag in the shelves.

As Ryan mentioned, the shelves are just inserted into the boards, without extra support, so don’t house your collection of heavy vintage encyclopedias on them. But, it’s an adaptable idea useful for different rooms and light-weight storage uses.
