I try not to think back on my blunder years, when my skin was spottier, my hair was frizzier and my bedroom was a whole lot more purple. But it is fun to look back at trends from my childhood and see if any of them have stuck around. Spoiler alert: They have. They just look a bit different now. It turns out constellations on the ceiling can be chic. Who knew?

Stars on the Ceiling

Everyone wanted to go to bed under the glowing night sky back then (usually in the form of glow-in-the-dark star stickers). Now, you can use the night sky as inspiration for a painted feature ceiling.

Posters Taped to the Wall

You might have had Leif Garrett, 'N Sync or New Kids on the Block, but the sentiment remains the same. Now there's a little more washi tape involved, and a whole lot more creative curation.

String Lights

You used to drape fairy lights across the windows, around the canopy bed, or tacked to the wall. The café-style string light look now is a little more refined.

Beaded Curtains

There's no mistaking the click clack of beaded curtains–whether yours were '70s wood beads or '90s plastic butterflies. You can still rock bead curtains at home now, just stick to a less-is-more approach.

Bean Bag Chair

Modern, adult bean bags are less pink and much less fuzzy–but still just as comfortable as their retro and vintage counterparts.

Mini Lockers

Schoolhouse design doesn't ever really go out of style. As long as you stick to more contemporary colors and designs, a locker will never look out of place.

Did you have any of these things in your bedroom growing up?
