Room Size: "I'm so bad at guessing."
What happens when you combine your child's personality with a keen eye for decorating and a little ingenuity? Pure magic. That's exactly what mom, Meta Coleman of One More Mushroom did when she designed her son Henrik's room. Henrik loves pirates, ships, and exploring, so Meta chose Ralph Lauren's Out to Sea wallpaper to set the tone for the space. And when she couldn't find a bed that suited her son, she decided to design one herself. The end result is a bright and colorful bedroom that any little boy would love to call home.
How would you describe the look and feel of this room?
Bright, colorful, modern boy's room.
What is your favorite piece or element?
I love the colorful Out to Sea Ralph Lauren wallpaper and the bed I designed him.
What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?
We have very tall vaulted ceilings. The challenge was in utilizing the tall ceilings and not making everything look too small or unimportant.
What do your friends say about the room?
They love how light and inviting it is. Henrik's friends love to play in his room.
Do you have any advice for parents creating a room for their child?
Try to incorporate the child's personality in the room. Pick only things you love and have fun doing it.
If money were no object, what's your dream source?
Schoolhouse Electric - They have so many beautiful options of lighting, room accessories and furniture.
What made you decide to design a bed for your son's room and what was the process like?
When my son grew out of his toddler bed I started looking for a bed that would suit him. I couldn't find anything that I liked, so I decided to design one for him. The bed, to me, is a symbol of my love for him. I love that he sleeps every night in something I designed specifically for him.
Thanks, Meta! Readers, you can see more of Meta at her blog, One More Mushroom, and you can find the Henrik bed for sale here.
