You can immediately smell the flowers when you walk into Melanie’s home, which is only natural given she is one of Charlotte’s premier florists. Melanie is the talented woman behind New Creations Flowers and her 1,600 square foot home is not only where she lives, it also serves as her floral studio. The bright colors and unique arrangements throughout this small duplex provide an organic element that truly brings the home to life.

Melanie fell in love with the space when she was single. When she first began decorating, her style skewed feminine, flirty and eclectic. Now that her husband and new baby (born just a week after this shoot!) have joined her, the home has become more and more of a family haven, but without losing the wonderful style that Melanie began with.

The nursery has special meaning, being a room that Scott and Melanie worked hard on together. With pieces that were found while thrifting, trips to IKEA, and the gorgeous DIY curtains, it all came together perfectly just in time for little Molly’s arrival. It is an incredibly positive space for a family.

Our Style: Eclectic and Feminine

Inspiration: I see inspiration everywhere. It could be a trip to Target, a walk outside, a visit to the floral wholesaler, or travel!

Favorite Element: I loved this house at first sight…the old tile, hardwood floors, quirky floor plan. The owner has allowed me to paint, hang light fixtures, and make changes.

Biggest Challenge: Working on a budget!

What Friends Say: Come decorate our house!

Biggest Embarrassment: Keeping the house clean and free from dead flowers, foliage, and work.

Proudest DIY: Our backyard wedding; we transformed the backyard into a beautiful garden party.

Biggest Indulgence: Flowers!

Best Advice: Bloom where you are planted and make do with what you have.

Dream Sources: CB2, West Elm, and Flea markets
