If you don't click through to the "after" in this post, you are really missing out. That's all we're going to say.

Look at that! What is that? How did they do that? This transformation was achieved by adding an intriguing new product called O'verlays to an Ikea Rast. Designed by Danika Herrick and Cheryle Rhuda, O'verlays are decorative fretwork pieces made of a semi-rigid composite material that you can use to adorn basic furniture pieces.

They've used them on mirrors, windows, doors, room dividers, tables, and more. Check out the O'verlays website to see all the available patterns (a new overlapping ovals design coming soon!), to purchase pieces, to see amazing examples of O'verlays in action, and to read about the story of developing their product.

cool!
That is insanely awesome. Now I just need to find a dresser to make over.
holy fsm! love this!
Love it!
Lovely!
Gorgeous!! I have an IKEA cabinet I so want to paint and funk up a bit. This would be perf! Is someone able to provide instructions on how this paint job was done exactly? I've never repainted anything and I'm not sure the best method.
This.is.awesome.
FYI... In case anyone goes tearing off to IKEA to get this dresser, it's actually a Malm, not a Rast. The drawers on the Rast are set into the frame unlike the item pictured here.
Otherwise, GREAT JOB. I love that each drawer has it's own unique pattern.
stunning!
Looks great. But I wonder about how the paint holds up in these projects. I have Malm night tables and the "veneer" is practically paper. If you set a glass of water on it, it cracks and buckles. I've had to buy the glass covers for it. Does anyone have first hand experience of how it holds up with paint?
Fancy!
Haha, jsev. I am touched by his noodly appendage, as well.
On topic however, I have a dresser I've been wanting to change forever but haven't had any real ideas. I'll definitely have to look into these. They're completely awesome.
Beyond Fabulous!!
Looks great, but at $18 a pop for each panel (and you need three), that's a helluva lot of cash and work to put into a $69 dresser. Just sayin...
lol @ jsev and confounded
I find my brethren everywhere!
It looks like a good idea, but as has been noted, they're expensive -- plus, don't they look kind of, well, crooked? If even these photos look a little off, I definitely don't trust myself to get it perfect.
wow those are awesome! like someone above mentioned, the pictured dresser is the malm, they show a rast with the overlays on their site. both look great!
wow. just wow.
Wow!
I literally gasped. So so gorgeous. Cheap dresser, yes, but who cares? It looks amazeballs.
Wow! So nice....
wow! :-O
I JUST gave my son this old, plain dresser for his first apartment ... now I wish I could "kidnap" it back and make it look like the white one! AMAZING!!! I'm bookmarking this, just in case the dresser comes back to me, at some point in time!
This looks fabulous.
What a clever idea!
As for the cost, it's still VERY cost-effective compared to new furniture that looks like that.
This looks lovely!
