Name: Kamini
Location: Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India

I moved back to my country India, in the summer of 2006, after a 23 year stay in the US. Being a designer by profession, I brought back some of my American design sensibilities with me, some of which are highly impractical here in India.

Remodels are never easy, working within a limited existing architectural framework comes with its own set of problems. Blending my Indian heritage with my love for sleek, modern Western design also proved to be a challenge.

I love color and texture, so in that sense using colorful Indian textiles and flooring options was easy. But I also tend to gravitate towards clean, wide open spaces with little clutter – so trying to accessorize with Indian artifacts and yet keep it simple and clutter free was not easy. I love warm, earthy colors and orange is my absolute favorite color. But I think i finally succeeded in creating a warm, open, inviting home!

Much of the art work you see in the house is done by me. Though not a professional artist by any stretch of the imagination, I do love to paint as a hobby!

Thanks, Kamini!
