Thank you so much for featuring my ugly bathroom on Apartment Therapy a few weeks ago. With the help of fellow Apartment Therapy readers, I was able to get some great ideas on how to revive my bathroom. Not only does it look better, but I now love being in there! I find the gray and white very soothing. Because I live in a rental, I was not able to change light fixtures, mirror, tiles etc, but thanks to the Apartment Therapy readers I feel like I've made the most of this bathroom. This was my very first home renovations/decorating project and it was so much fun!
Thanks, Sharon!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Wow! What a great change!
Much Better!
Congrats!
Wow, that really is a huge improvement. I'm impressed that Sharon was able to boil all the comments down to something useable, and to do her makeover in such a short amount of time. Congrats, Sharon!
Great job, Sharon!
Ah, the power of decorating! It's a whole new space, just with some skillful color moves. Nice work!
Gray was definitely the way to go, wasn't it? Nice.
It looks like a brand new bathroom. The gray is a really nice accent color for that tile. great job and thanks for sharing!
Great Job! Looks beautiful.
A perfect example of "celebrating the givens"... even when you don't love the givens! Congrats!
i love that you put up a curtain to mask that glass door. Great job!
Beautiful! I'm sure you feel much better about it too!
I'm extremely impressed! I really would have thought that yellow sink was a lost cause, but this makeover made that and what was previously blech brown wall tiles work! It's looks so elegant now and made the older, more permanent aspects look a bit retro and purposeful. Nice work!
EEEEHXcellent!
great! great! great!
Nicely done. I like this very much.
Aw how pretty! I spy some stuff from Anthro!
so pretty! i'm so jealous!
That does look so much better! Thanks for sharing the after.
The gray looks great. Really nicely done.
I've always loved gray and yellow together (try wearing it--it makes one feel elegant somehow). This bathroom really works now. Great job with the accessories and containers, too!
Looks great! Grey is the contemporary answer to mid-century bathrooms. Pinks, blues, yellows, greens... there's a grey out there to bring it into the 21st century.
GREAT job!!!!!
Good job! Looks fabulous!
Hmm, I find myself having a different response than you folks. I'm pleased that Sharon loves it; that's the important thing, but for me that gray, yellow, and caramel-color don't harmonize or give me a good feeling.
In the second photo, I was faked out by the optical illusion (maybe of my monitor) having me see a very pale, almost imperceptible aqua color, like the color in the artwork hung on the wall -- in the image of the shower curtain reflected in the mirror, and I thought - Wow! This is beautiful and sweet and calm. The gray has the opposite feeling, for me.
Just shows how personal color choices are, I reckon.
Looks great! Nice job Sharon.
That's terrific! I really love that color combination.
Applause applause!
Considering the limitations, you did a great job.

Really?
Always makes me feel like a bottle of Jean Nate...
;-)
What goes best with tiles the color sand? Why Sea Blue or Sea Green of course! Good job.
Love the colors!

Fantastic! Not many people post their after photos. This is as close to "instant gratification" as it gets! I remember thinking, All she needs to do is get rid of that red rug and all those mismatched accessories, and it'll look great." And now I know!!!
beautiful job!!
I liked your turquoise accents in the before, but I agree this colour palette is much more unifying. Nice! I assume your glass shower doors are still behind the curtain? Hiding them is a great idea.
Love the change! The color palette is the perfect mix of cheerful, yet calm, and all the different shades in the tiles and in the sink suddenly harmonize instead of clash. This just reinforces my desire to paint my new apartment in some shade of gray.
This is so helpful! I have some of the same issues with awful bathrooms in a rental, and my bathroom has very dated tile. Thanks for posting the update and giving me lots of ideas!
Excellent job! The new color scheme completely down plays the tile color and brings the sink to life. The whole look flows a lot nicer than that stark red rug and blue towels from before. The new rug is actually inviting, rather than attacking (for me, certain rooms of the house should never have red color and decor. Red is just too threatening in places like bathrooms and knife filled kitchens!).
Beautiful idea to mask the shower doors with a subtle tree print curtain. It actual makes the room look larger- like it's a big window to the outdoors.
I love seeing real before and after fotos of real before and after projects done by real people- not staged for magazines. You have inspired many of us today, Sharon! Thank you.
Yay!! This is fabulous, Sharon! I imagine selecting *that* shade of gray wasn't easy, but it looks wonderful with your wall tile and sink -- the white stands out nicely, and the floor tile is now successfully tied in with the wall tile.
I like your personal little touches, too, especially the "S"-stamped hook for your hand towel. Thanks for showing us your "after" photos.
AMAZING! holy cow! That tile color actually looks much richer, now.
Bravo! This is lovely.
Sooooo much better! Bravo Sharon
Gorgeous!!! I thought the shower curtain hiding the sliding doors was brilliant. My only advice is changing the toilet seat (from beige to white) to match the toilet. Its a small detail but trust me it will make a difference!!!
Wow, this is incredible. This is a wonderful example of how to work with what you got. I really love seeing this, thanks for sharing.
Yay, so glad to see the results! Well done!
I like to think of myself as pretty good with color, but I never would have thought to use gray with that tile - and yet, I love the result! Fantastic. Good de-cluttering too - it makes all the difference.
I almost always dislike gray, so I'm amazed at how much better this bathroom looks to me with gray walls and the other tweaking. Congratulations on your DIY success!
Great work.
My bad if I didn't see it, but is there a source for the shower curtain? I have a pale mustard (almost khaki) and white bath with chrome accents and would love something graphic but not stark.
I just love how you rearranged everything! I'll have to give this a try in my teeny tiny bathroom. Thank you!
I would have said it couldn't be made attractive, and I'd have been proved wrong. Nice work!
i love before and afters!
I love the picture on the wall bringing in the tile color, it's a great way to bring it together.
Very nice.
This kind of makeover is always my very favorite! Just some color and clever accessories to dress up a nice vintage bathroom. I applaud you, the original tiles are beautiful, but I would have had a tough time figuring out how to modernize them as well as you did!
On a side note, I have a similar shower curtain as you (mine's from Target), and I love it. It really made my vintage bathroom feel almost spa-like instantly.
I love you for not ripping out your tile and sink.
Ah ... you rent. I should have read the text first. Nicely done, regardless.
Thank you everyone!! To answer the questions re the shower curtain, it is from CB2 and yes, those ugly doors are still behind it :)
