Capitol Hill — Seattle, Washington
It has taken me two years and four months to get my 470 square foot condo finally ready for a House Call. It proves that my style is patience! It takes me forever to find any object that I truly love. Every shopping experience is like searching for a soul mate. I am mostly drawn to old, used objects that make you wonder their life story. Therefore, used goods stores, craigslist, and garage sales are my muse and inpiration.
The small size of the space has forced me to become more creative with my decoration choices in order to avoid clutterness and create a comfortable, inviting space. All my furniture is space-conscious. Clean lines and petite size, but comfortable. I chose green and yellow for the wall colors because of its warmth and cozyness.
Although it is a studio condo, I have tried my best to give each space its own character. I did not want my studio condo look like a studio. For example, my living room is very simple and cozy yet my kitchen is full of colors and very retro.
Having a condo has motivated me to paint and be crafty. I first started painting because I could not afford to buy any real paintings for my place, but it has become my favorite pasttime. All the paintings in the condo are done by me, except Jill Campbell's watercolor painting in the kitchen.
I also made a toilet paper holder out of a retro phone and a kitchen ceiling light fixture out of a colander.
The biggest indulgence is a bench cushion for the built-in eating nook. I had it professionally upholstered. It was expensive, but my tiny Asian butt appreciates it.
My friends always say that my place looks like it belongs to New York city and comment how cozy it is.
