Name: Suki
Location: Capitol Hill — Seattle, Washington
It has taken me two years and four months to get my 470 square foot condo finally ready for a House Call. It proves that my style is patience! It takes me forever to find any object that I truly love. Every shopping experience is like searching for a soul mate. I am mostly drawn to old, used objects that make you wonder their life story. Therefore, used goods stores, craigslist, and garage sales are my muse and inpiration.
The small size of the space has forced me to become more creative with my decoration choices in order to avoid clutterness and create a comfortable, inviting space. All my furniture is space-conscious. Clean lines and petite size, but comfortable. I chose green and yellow for the wall colors because of its warmth and cozyness.
Although it is a studio condo, I have tried my best to give each space its own character. I did not want my studio condo look like a studio. For example, my living room is very simple and cozy yet my kitchen is full of colors and very retro.
Having a condo has motivated me to paint and be crafty. I first started painting because I could not afford to buy any real paintings for my place, but it has become my favorite pasttime. All the paintings in the condo are done by me, except Jill Campbell's watercolor painting in the kitchen.
I also made a toilet paper holder out of a retro phone and a kitchen ceiling light fixture out of a colander.
The biggest indulgence is a bench cushion for the built-in eating nook. I had it professionally upholstered. It was expensive, but my tiny Asian butt appreciates it.
My friends always say that my place looks like it belongs to New York city and comment how cozy it is.
Thanks Suki!

Ercol Bar Stool
Very cute, and I love the tp holder and the colors in the bathroom!
Everything looks really cute and like a space I would enjoy living in....but I am not quite sure what I am seeing. A floor plan would help to figure out where your bed is in all of this and put the distorted pics into alignment, for me. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Can we have a tutorial for that toilet paper holder, please please please?
AGREED! Toilet paper holder=awesome!
I love the kitchen light and also the one above the dining table. The whole place is heaven.
Love, love the tile in the bathroom. Adorable home!
I really, really, really love your bathroom! Yellow + aqua = awesome!!!
So cute! The bathroom is so bright and welcoming, and I love the kitchen light :)
I absolutely love the tile! I am getting my first place in the spring (which will no doubt also be small), and I would love it if my place could have as much coziness as yours does.
The bathroom is darling!
Seattle in the hizzy!!!
I agree with the poster about...how did you do the phone toilet paper holder. Brilliant!
musical toilet paper holder + cheery christmas lights in the kitchen + a church pew in the living = priceless. LOVE.
so inspiring! thanks for sharing your creative little place!
I love: the red touches against the green in the kitchen, the blue tile bathroom, and the lovely big windows. Also, your wall o' kitchen has almost exactly the same cabinet layout that mine does but yours is so much nicer. I'm jealous.
cute and funky. feels very cozy.
This is gorgeous. I live in 390 feet also in the NW, so your bright, cozy, tiny place is seriously inspiring. House tour, please?
Adorable. I love your style! :) Thanks for sharing!
The bedroom looks so cozy and restful. I love your home.
Love!
I must request a tutorial for the colander light fixture; the patterns it projects onto the ceiling are so cheerful and beautiful!
Your 28 months were well spent. Love you place.
Where is your bed covering from? Love the
tie dye.
Nice. I like the homey feel. It will be 'easy' to live with and make changes. It sort of 'dime-store deco' to me. From the colors and some accessoried and could be at home in an ol 30s bldg of wak up in NYC. But change out that ceiling mounted kitchen light for a pendant more like the rest of the place! **My first comment here - just registered a few minutes ago!
I love this place. It looks like a real live human being lives here. So many of the tours look soulless. This apt. could tell stories. Kudos!
Holy mother of god, that church pew in the living room is awesome!
I'm with EmBeGee...how'd you rig up that colander light fixture???
Really nice place. I am fascinated with old, used things too.
The bathroom rocks.
Gorgeous!! I'd live here in a heartbeat.
I love the kitchen light! This would make a great house tour.
LOVE the toilet paper holder!
LOVE to see Northwest / Seattle house tours on AT! Nice work, Suki! I swear, I've been in your apartment before, long ago. Love the bathroom most of all - the gold touches with the blue tile is gorgeous.
AT! Please, please, please get a blogger here. The reader-submitted tours are better than nothing, but ones done by local bloggers are so much more useful, inspiring and inviting. Seattle deserves it!
It's gorgeous, Suki! You've done a marvelous job with such a small space.
So small yet so cozy. I am jealous because you have used your space so well. When I had a small place (less than 300 sqft) I felt I didn't have any style because everything was about function. Love the bathroom, it would have made me cry.
Hi! I just had to chime in since I live in the neighborhood! So fun to see a Cap Hill post on AT! Love the colander light fixture. Tutorial please.
wow... is that an (aesthetically pleasing!) squat toilet? be still my heart! or is it a sitter with a hidden tank of sorts? Either way, I'd love to see a photo of it.
Did your condo come with this tile or did you have it installed later? What year was your place built? Your bathroom has such lovely character... esp. for new construction (if it is) -- tks!
I had to mark this tour as a favorite. Everything about it makes me very happy.
totally inspirational! love the modern retro vibe. :)
I work with Suki and how hard she's worked on her studio. House tour, house tour! Yes!!
I live in the same building as Suki and love our 1928 building. All of the units have a funky touch with an arragement of colors in the bathroom tile work -- some have pink tile, others mint green, a few yellow and some blue like Suki's. It's an amazing building and the folks live there for the simple reason that it is such a cool space and you can really individualize it like Suki has...I completely agree with Suki's sentiment that is definitely far from the typical box studio...which is why I was willing to live in a smaller space.
Nice job Suki!
What an amazing use of space! I love the colors, retro touches, and especially the quirky fixtures. I'm totally inspired by the TP holder and the kitchen light fixture. TOUR PLEASE! I've gotta see it up close!
OMG, AT never notified me of my photos being chosen for House Call. While feeling anxious after two weeks of waiting, I accidentally stumbled across my own entry few hours ago. I was at work, but couldn't help myself screaming, "OMG OMG OMG, I got chosen!!!!!" My boss literally had to massage my back because I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I appreciate all your sweet comments! I do not know how to post tutorials, but if AT lets me, I would love to post tutorials for the TP holder and light fixture. :)
@sassy c, I could not submit the floor plan, but if chosen for House Tour, I will def. The bedroom nook is right behind the living wall (the painting side).
@shannon taylor, I love the light fixture in the dinning area too. I bought it 12 years ago in Amsterdam. :)
@hippyvieja, it is an old quilt. Not a tie-dye cover. I bought it at an old antique shop in OR.
@white on white, where do you live on the hill? I have suggested this idea repeatedly, but I would love to have an AT social group formed in Seattle. It is hard to meet other artsy fartsy people who appreciate pretty things and like to decorate their house.
Hi Suki, the apartment looks better than ever, nice work and congratulations!
I love what Suki's done with her condo! All the beautiful colors and the creative touches make her condo very warm and welcoming. I would love to live in a place like this. Now I know who to call when I need some decorating help. FAB job, Suki! I vote for this place to be selected for a HOUSE TOUR.
Cool speakers/stands in the living room. Looks like Audiowood work. Nice cozy home!
@busy yogurt, no they are all original tiles. I just thought yellow would make my old blue-tiled bathroom more cheerful.
@bunnywax, my speakers and amplifier are made by Glowaudio. They are simply wonderful.
In all my years looking at AT, I think this is my favorite small apartment yet! I wish I lived in Seattle in a place like yours. It looks so warm and welcoming. The blue bathroom is so vibrant and nicely decorated. I could imagine taking bubble bath there and it being very relaxing. The living room looks like a fun place to hang out and relax as well. Overall everything is very great.
Hey Suki--nice little place. I designed and built your speaker stands (for Glow). I like the placement. Hope they are what you expected.
Joel.
@audiowood, yes they are wonderful! Everybody loves them.
Nice place, but the distortion of the pic because of the len angles are distracting.
REALLY cute! Love the lighting :)
I must be blind. It is cluttered and looks like a dirty teenagers apartment.
Love the color schemes, and emphasis on details :)
