Name: Tiffany
Location: Studio in Upper West Side, Manhattan, New York
Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of having my own apartment in New York City. There was something about the history and charm of the big buildings that inspired me, and I loved the classical detailing that so contrasted the stucco suburb of my youth in San Diego, California.
After graduating from NYU, I was ready to relocate uptown to a mellower neighborhood. After looking at over 15 apartments, I knew exactly what I wanted: lots of light, a bay window, exposed brick, and pre-war detailing. When I walked into this apartment I knew it was home. It is a wide open space that is clean and bright; it was my perfect little piece of the city.
The décor of my apartment is inspired by the elegance and charm of The Upper West Side. My apartment looks down onto a famous French café, and my apartment definitely reflects a little bit of that European energy. I also loved this studio because of the bedroom alcove. It allows for a practical separation of spaces without segmenting my already small space.
My apartment combines romantic touches such as my crystal chandelier and feminine bed-drapery with some shabby chic elements. My most special decoration is the blown up picture of a couple kissing on New York City rooftop that you see just as you open the door. The picture is incredibly special to me because it is a photo of my grandparents from 1937 and I recently discovered it in an old box. I personally restored it and blew it up to 2 by 3 feet. In that photo my grandmother is 22 and was also attending NYU, which is a very special connection.
Thanks, Tiffany!

Where is kitchen area?
I really like this space and would like a house tour. My heart tugged when I read the part about your grandmama's picture you blew up...so very sweet. You've done a beautiful job here.
It looks very cozy, a nice break from the usual AT style. Would love to see the photo better, what a great story behind it :)
I just had to register to comment on this. I have the exact same window that you have above your fireplace! I purchased mine last year in Pennsylvania. Do you happen to know where they originally came from?
Your space is lovely!
Beautiful space. Great light. I can see why you fell in love. I like that you kept the color palette simple and light. Love the Bedroom alcove. Would like to see the kitchen.
This is just lovely. The light, the brick, the furnishings. It's a studio, but it doesn't feel like one.
Looks like a great space.
What a lovely, feminine space. It makes me want to see more of it.
Beautiful and I love the story of the photograph, so touching!
Is your couch from Macy's? We've got the sectional from that line and LOVE it.
Gorgeous. What a beautiful home. It reminds me of a Frances Hodgeson Burnett novel.
I love this apartment. It makes me want to sell my house and simplify my life.
I too would like a sneak peek at the kitchen and bathroom. And one from the photograph
I like everything in this apartment and the apartment itself, but I think the layout of these pretty items within this pretty space could be better. In particular, the grand bed shoved in the corner like that is a bit odd, and there are parts of the seating arrangement in the living room, the too-high height of the screen in front of the couch, etc. that are really making me think that a little tweaking would make this place sing. I wish we had a floor plan of the whole apartment to tinker with!
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! Filled with love and soul. Congratulations on turning your dream into a reality!
love the brick wall look.. would love that in my apartment.. does anyone know a way to have faux brick look in a rental unit? is there some sort of product?
Beautiful apartment, especially the fireplace.
Love it!
cute apartment.
but that would be "on the upper westside"
: )
perfection, looks like a television set.
I adore your wing chairs and chandelier! And what a wonderful window nook! Lovely!!!!
Gorgeous!!! Love everything about it! :)
You're living my dream - and many others' I imagine! Gorgeous place - love that you have a photo of your grandmother as a young woman.

Such a pretty photo! I was wondering where this artwork came frome... Then I read they were you're grandparents. So lovely to have a great picture with such a personal touch to it.
Very nice - the good bones makes it charming and your taste works well in the space
Very Nice!
I would love to know where you got your window.
Have a Joyful Day :~D

Ooh, nice!
In real life, I would never make that bed, and all the pillows would be in a hamper. orz
Just lovely! Cosy, feminine and utterly charming. Personally I may be inclined to either centre the bed on the back wall and move the drawers to the side wall, or try the bed against the side wall opposite the window. I loved the photo story and what you've done with the picture - congratulations on creating a beautiful home.
I own a 2-bedroom place right across the park (upper east), and I'm seething with jealousy! What an amazing place. Fireplace, moldings, light? Check, check, check! And someone who knows how to decorate it with charm!
I am inlove with your space. I LOVE the floors, I LOVE the brick and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bay windo. I really do with there was an image of your kitchen and bathroom. I also wish there was a layout photo as well. I do have one question, why not face your bed to the window?? Just asking, either way I LOVE it! great job!
Very nice! But, yeah, where are the kitchen and bathroom. I don't see any doors to closets either. Eek!
Your home is so beautiful..Like Meme Karue, I am wondering the same...but of what I see...I love your home...Please, we need a full tour!
Hi Everyone!
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! It's my pleasure to share my space with all of you.
I would be thrilled to give you a more detailed tour of my apartment, (including the kitchen, bathroom, loft, and closet space). Hopefully Apartment Therapy will give me an opportunity to share all of that with you via "house tour".
Happy Decorating,
Tiffany
(Oh, and SES411, I got the window above the fireplace at the Chelsea Antique Market, however someone did tell me that it was of Indonesian styling) :)
I have the exact same one and bought mine in Bali. I'm pretty sure its an original Indonesian design inspired by the Javanese traditional room partician called "Gebyok". Google "Balinese window mirror" and you will get similar designs :)
Absolutely lovely. If I didn't know you were in NYC, I would swear it was a Paris flat.
I like it, organized well for a small space. Very welcoming.
I love the style! Its very cosy, the way I like it! thanks for the idea.
