Svenja is an interior design blogger and her boyfriend Jonas is a professional poker player, and they share a 1300 square foot airy apartment in a big old building in the heart of Vienna. It’s also the kind of all-white, Scandinavian-inspired dream holiday home that’s just perfect for kicking off this holiday season!

Svenja writes: “We chose the apartment because we fell in love with the herringbone floors that are in every room, the four meter high walls, the big leaf doors and windows and the original brass door and window handles.

For Christmas I decorated our home in a natural and simple way with some DIYs (e.g. the old board with candles on the work table) and self-made wreaths. My favorite room is the living room, because it is almost round and there is a balcony all around the room. I also especially love the pretty buildings you can see from every window (it looks a bit like Paris) and that our home is always filled with light.”

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: I love a simple, airy, bright and cozy style with Scandinavian elements. White is definitely my favorite color. I always go for a mix of vintage items (like the old work bench that we use as a coffee bar), design classics (like the Flos 265 light) and playful boho elements (like the Ay Illuminate Z1 light).

Inspiration: Most of my inspiration comes from all of our travels because that is usually the time where my mind is clear and I come up with the best ideas. I also read blogs and magazines about interior design daily as well as look for fresh ideas on Pinterest and Instagram.

Favorite Element: Hard to decide but I really love the Z1 Cotton lamp in our living room because it is a real dream lamp for me and it was a birthday present from my boyfriend. The other favorite element is the old work bench that we use as our coffee bar; we found it at an antiques shop in Munich and as it is a unique piece it has a special value to me. Of course I also love all of the light that comes in through our really big windows!

Biggest Challenge: Integrating the fireplace into the rest of the apartment.

What Friends Say: Can you furnish our apartment? 😉

Biggest Embarrassment: Still just a light bulb and no real light fixtures in our guest bathroom, big sorry to all my friends.

Proudest DIY: Painting our big dining table (that we also use as our work table) completely white and my self-made palette sofa.

Biggest Indulgence: The 265 lamp by Flos and our Vintage Beni Ourain Rug from Marrakesh.

Best Advice: Ask yourself “How would my apartment look and be furnished if no one else but me would ever see it?” That is the style you really love and feel comfortable with, without any pressure on trendy items and so called “must-haves.” I always make sure that everything we decide to have in our apartment is what we truly love and feel good with.

Dream Sources: I would love to spend a little bit of money on a real dream chair, a white Diamond Chair from Harry Bertoia. I think this one would look so good in our living room!
