When Vanessa from This & That and her husband Eric moved into their Auburn, Alabama home they got to work on improving their small galley kitchen. Now that it's done, I'd have to say that all their hard work paid off. Check out their results after the jump…

Vanessa truly turned a ho-hum kitchen into something beautiful. They replaced the countertops, sink, faucet, flooring, lighting, stove hood, fridge, and backsplash. They did almost all work themselves for under $1,500. The new look is so bright and cheery without being overbearing. I love the serene feeling and those butcher block counters have been on my mind ever since I saw her post.

Check out This & That | Kitchen for Vanessa's full post with a breakdown of the budget, more pictures and links to other posts where she shares details on the various projects they took on to get this renovation done.

Bravo! Especially for $1,500.
Beautiful, I love the brick flooring!!!
wow!! completely brightened up the space.
amazing!
Very simple and efficient! This is well done. I really appreciate the whole project : the recycled cabinets, the chosen colors, fabrics, lighting fixtures, etc. Great job!
Awesome results! It's classic, aspirational, yet contemporary. A lot of bang for their buck.
These are the best kind of kitchen redos. I never get tired of seeing simple, affordable, beautiful DIY kitchens. Great job!
It looks fantastic, great job! I love seeing renos that work with elements that already exist in the room instead of completely gutting it and starting over. You get a nice new kitchen for a reasonable price and less ends up in the landfill.
Now THIS is a budget makeover. I hate it when they say budget makeover only 10k. This is totally fresh and modern look. LOVE IT!
i love how bright the room is now. Personally, not digging the floor. I think it's clashing with the wood countertop. But to each their own.
Love this, well done! In my next life (since it is wrong to actually hope for my perfectly great wood floors to suddenly rot or fall apart) I will definitely have brick floors in my kitchen. Just love that look, and this kitchen rocks it. Thank you for showing a budget makeover that really was a low-cost project.
I love it - especially the brick-veneer flooring which is perfect for the cottage-style kitchen they were going for.
Beautiful.:) What a great choice, and that brick will hide a multitude of sins (says someone who rarely mops the floors). Practical and pretty!
so brick floors are back? I've never stopped liking them, just asking.
I have a similar color green in my kitchen and LOVE it, 4 years later.
It's because of posts like this that I remodeled my kitchen with white cabinets and dark butcher block counters---even if the trend in my neighborhood is granite and super modern flat front cabinets -- So so so beautiful and classic. I'm in love whenever I see this combination.
Such a great job!
Adore the brightness of it all. And those countertops. Guh. Great job!
And props. A before/after shot from the same P.O.V.! Brilliant, I tell you.
Beautiful job. I love the countertops.
SO pretty! It is great to see a kitchen that isn't trendy but instead makes the most of the space it's in. I am a complete butterfingers when it comes to cooking and handling dishes, etc. in the kitchen, so I'd suggest a pretty cotton/washable runner to make it less likely that things will break if they hit the floor -- and would also make it easier to stand on the hard floor if you're in the kitchen for a long time preparing food and/or cleanging up (it's what I've done -- don't know how many things I've saved from destruction on my tile floor!). Just one possibility: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/decorating-and-accessories/floor-runners/cayden-2.5%27x6%27-runner/s128239
Oh, and $1500? Amazing!
wow well done!
i kidnap you to help me with my kitchen?
can i*
gorgeous! Beautiful results on an amazing budget!!!
Perfectly executed IMO.
These cabinets look much better painted! And I always love those countertops. And I like the brick floor. Very nice!
Like the green color on the wall, too.
Awesome job! Galley kitchens are tough but this looks bright and open! The countertops are gorgeous!
if $1500 included the materials and labor, then bravo! Beautiful job. I could be completely crazy but I do not like the brick floors. Everything else is perfect!
Love it... looks SO much better... great job!

So lovely and I agree the dark butcher block countertops with the white cabinets is such a great combo, I get sick of hearing everyone needs to have granite and stainless steel.
I don't like the floor though :-( I would have preferred something brighter. But maybe just a brick lover to begin with.
All in all, great diy.
LOVE the white-painted cabinets, the hardware, the soft green wall paint, the butcher-block top and the bead-board. If bead-board worked with the style of the rest of my place, I'd be hammering some up right about now; I always like it.
I like the floor's rustic look but I agree it looks too dark compared to the rest of the room... I wonder if that's the lighting or the camera work, rather than how it looks "in real life"? I'm always amazed how different some things look to my naked eye vs. in my phone's viewfinder, for example....
P.S. I just checked out the This & That blog, and it's interesting to see how the bricks looked before and after the sealant was applied. The sealant really darkened them. I have to say I prefer the lighter, softer look of the unsealed brick, but to each her own. It's still a Wonderful kitchen makeover, very well done and for such a small amount of money! Amazing!

$1,500?? Brilliant! Price encourages me. We're looking to buy 1st home, have a low budget, and if the kitchen needs redone I thought I was doomed!
I love the fact that you kept the cabinets. It just shows what a good paint job and some new hardware can accomplish. What a waste of money it would have been to replace them. Well done!
I love the white cabinets and especially the dark butcher block counters. Fabulous. I don't love the brick so much, mostly because I imagine it would be really hard to clean up the inevitable crumbs. I just don't feel it's a practical choice for a kitchen.
Thank you for your kind comments everyone. In "real life" the floors look better than they photo. They are dark, but I've never really thought about that until I read it here. If I had gone with wood I would have used a darker color, so I guess the brick isn't any darker visually than the wood. But the best part is they are pretty much maintenance free!
I think you did a great job. Looks warm and inviting. While I like the look of the brick I wouldn't want to stand on it for very long. Hard surfaces are not kind to your legs and feet.
Much happier place now. I love the wood counters and the green/white colors.
