Last week I wrote about 10 Tiny Kitchens We Love and many of you remarked that one of the reasons that they were so great was the natural light they had. Well, living green often means living small. And living small means we don't always get a window in our kitchen. So, here are 10 great kitchens that are windowless and fantastic at the same time.
1 Check this great space out over at the Kitchn, using reflective surfaces and high ceilings you almost forget there is no natural light.
2 Sporting funky colored appliances and counter tops to match, this kitchen goes all out. You can see it all, write on the wall and can just imagine making a great meal here.
3 Monochromatic with splashes of yellow, this kitchen is funky and subtle at the same time.
4 It's dark, and embracing it just makes this kitchen more beautiful.
5 Sleek surfaces and floor to ceiling tile make up for no natural light in this space.
6 This all white kitchen just makes you want to take a deep breath.
7 All white again but so different. Cozy and clean looking you don't miss a window in this kitchen at all.
8 Who would have ever thought that a basement kitchen could be so bright? Lighting does the trick here.
9 The backsplash and countertops bounce light around this kitchen wonderfully.
10 When you have nothing to lose you might as well go bold! I love the way the color makes this kitchen so bright.

The under-cabinet lighting is really important for kitchens that don't have windows. Love the backsplash in the first picture.

haha!
They're all very nice-looking, but just like my windowless kitchen at home, I look at these pictures and shudder at the thought of spending time in those rooms... sorry.
I don't know what it is... windowless kitchens make me feel all closed in like I'm locked in a basement or something, no matter how tidy or pretty they are.
Agree about the under cabinet lighting. Adding it made a world of difference in our windowless kitchen.
Kitchen #2 is mine, and though I do often find myself wishing I had windows, I love it very much and use it every single day. I'm currently working on a cookbook (I write the blog Food in Jars) and have tested and retested every recipe that's going in the book in my 80 square foot kitchen. No one can ever say that it isn't functional and well-used.
Fantatic post! Thankyou! So so very inspirational
Fantastic ideas to create light and inspirational kitchens without feeling claustrophobic.
Gee, I sure could have used this wonderful inspiration post three homes ago...
Great stuff that can also apply to kitchens with windows.
love the second kitchen!
