Name: Alexis Karpf and her fiance Nick
Location: Silverlake — Los Angeles, CA
Size: 1200 square feet, 2 bedroom, 1 bath
Years lived in: 2 — rent
I met Alexis through her business partner Jeff Eyser, who you may remember from his house tour last year. Alexis and her fiance share this single level duplex home in the hills of Silverlake. They have a wonderful little yard and plenty of organic goodness ripening in their garden. Alexis is a prop stylist for various reality tv shows, where she draws much inspiration for her own home.
Everything about Alexis' home is eclectically styled to work together, if that makes sense. I love that her home merges traditional and quirky design, and she's not afraid to mix styles in each nook of every room.
The living room has enough seating for a big family gathering, the dining room could host a full dinner party and their office comfortable stores books, collectables and a pull out couch for any overnight guest. At home Alexis brings fun elements of design with eclectic furniture from a range of vintage/thrift to high end and chain stores. Each room has a punch of color and dabbles in with a humorous touch. She has a love of woodland motif and deer accessories — not only does she have a porcelain deer heads hanging around in various rooms, she has an entire cocktail mixer set dedicated to the theme.
And as we move outside, her side yard has a small patio overlooking the city, several pots of various herbs, a blooming vegetable garden and a moderate composting bin.
I love the playful airiness of this home! Enjoy!

Love everything! The old phone on the desk is awesome!
fun... I personally love the faux trophies...however, do I smell a Z Gallerie discount?
I love this home so much I want to scream at a perfect stranger until they slap me.
Okay okay, the hunting lodge thing is overdone all across America at this point, but lovingly-collected deer parts aside, this place would be hard to duplicate. I dig places that look like the owners have personality and not a target credit card.
I am also into the clever use of what appears to be wood grain contact paper.
though not my style a lot of very cool stuff like the old hardware keychain holder and the giant skull in the kitchen.
upsetting there is a comfy dog bed but no phot of a dog
Bethany, how does Alexis' husband feel about her having a fiance?
TKPKgirl - good catch :)
I think this house is really fun! It's trendy, yes, but it has the feeling (to me, at least) of someone working a trend she likes into her home rather than decorating based on the current trend. And I'm a firm believer in not avoiding things you like just because they happen to be trendy at the moment.
nice space!
I like the usage of color- especially in those tones. I do feel like the living room is very overstyled in comparison to the rest of the house, especially in contrast to the lovely lived in mellow Silverlake dining area and office. but good job!
One of the most original homes lately...quirky and wacky! The deer head mounted on a wall on a placemat with printed utensils.. the gater skull!...and I like the idea of salvaged hardware on a board where the keys are stored...very imaginative! Very fun!
Oh dear...deer everywhere!
grass in a box. gotta do it.
When everything in a home is 'eclectic' or 'quirky' I feel like it all just starts to cancel itself out. Or is that just me? And everyone seems to be doing the same 'eclectic', so is it really eclectic and quirky anymore? Just wondering! Don't mean to be negative but it sometimes seems like too many of us are trying to be original in the same way! I'm guilty too!
OH Hohum! NOT TO BE NEGATIVE, but Alexis earned her antlers here, so TRY RIDING YOUR ORIGINAL GUILTY SELF on that 'quirky' 'eclectic' horse of yours back to IKEA where you BELONG! SHEESH! LOVE that little side table displaying the stack of National Geographics in the bedroom. I would replace everything remotely Ikean with furniture along those lines & then Hohum would REALLY have something to quirk-eclecticlick about! More power to you!
I read that 3 times and still don't know what you are shouting about! Don't take it all so seriously coarse talk!
Normally I am sick of antlers but this is well done. It looks like people live there, and its fun. Bravo.
A lot of really great things. I especially liked the dining room.
I lurve the placemat with the silverware printed on it. Where did that come from??
I like this space, despite {in spite?} of all this negativity and sarcasm...
Way too much of an animal/dead animal theme going on. Love the view, though!
I'm so offended on behalf of the person who posted their home for you. Does every post need a moderator these days to deal with the people who don't know the meaning of constructive criticism? I'm sure this person bought things they saw they liked in their price range JUST LIKE YOU. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Seriously. This is why I've never posted my apartment on this website. On a more positive note, I'm madly in love with those 2 animal skin chairs...and your little Alpaca...and your pink flamingo.
I'm interested in finding out what the wood backgrounds are on the walls... wallpaper, paint, ???

Thank you, Wanda. Yes, these commenters are becoming really ghetto and pretentious. It'd be interesting to see what THEIR digs are like, if they even have the guts to reveal themselves (and they don't, of course).
You've mixed disparate styles with total abandon--like the colonial dining chairs and the ultra-modern chandelier--and it works. My favorites include the collage of door hardware--that's a real inspiration--and the parasol on the bedroom ceiling. I just don't get the current popularity of animal heads (even though they're not real), but this is still a wonderfully stylish house.
Seems like people are upset by the negative comments, but I can understand why there are some...I think when you present the home of someone who is a stylist, the bar is raised, and the decor of this home just doesn't reach that bar for me. The flimsy curtain rods are what really ruins most of the rooms though, and could be easily eliminated.
I want to know where the deer painting in the first or second photo came from and what those curious stuffed dolls on the shelf in the office are. Were they an Etsy find? Were they custom made?
I agree with EdithGeorge. (And Holhum, by the way.) If this is the home of a stylist, I think someone is in the wrong profession.
As far as coarsetalk, you chose your name aptly.
Hodgey podgey for my tastes but very homey indeed. Ellie May coffee house chic! Watch out for those small things on the wall next to those big things and then there's a plant or lamp in front of them. I used to live in SoCal and just HATE those old wall heaters. They scare me. But wachyagonndo?
Hey guys Alexis here! I have been getting a lot of questions as far as where did I get stuff. The wood wall DC fix can be bought at: http://www.designyourwall.com/store/Wood-Grain-Contact-paper-c-132.html
The dolls on the shelf are from New Orleans they are custom voodoo dolls of Jeff and I. check out www.flipthisbitch.com
As for the criticism, I can take it! I do have a certain income that allows me to afford somethings and not other things. But I look at my place as a collection of my life and things I have done. It is constantly changing so stay tuned!
