Carithanne says, “Who knows how long this chair sat abandoned in a forgotten basement before my dad rescued it for our next restoration project?” This particular piece was extra exciting because of its classic mid-century design, complete with a production date on the bottom from 1953! The upholstery needed a total overhaul after more than 60 years, but this piece had solid maple bones just waiting for the right person to come along and give it some TLC.

They dismantled and sanded every inch of the cracked and peeling finish before giving it a deep mahogany stain and two coats of satin polyurethane. Carithanne says, “The resulting color reminds me of a merlot, and who doesn’t like wine?”

Then she replaced the worn out cushioning with brand new 4″ thick foam layered between burlap to give the seat firmness.

From Carithanne:

I didn’t want the fabric to overshadow the amazing color of the stain, so I chose a neutral patterned canvas for the upholstery and complemented it with nifty geometric tacks. I love how the zig zag pattern plays against the curves of the table and legs. It’s funky and fun.
