Sean has been transforming his white box of an apartment into a stylish and personalized home. In one of his recent blog posts Sean shows off this DIY bathroom lighting makeover that works around an existing awkward location in a creative way.

This lighting over the double basin sink in Sean's bathroom was unattractive - both as a light fixture and in the shadows it cast on the folks under it. Sean knew that he needed to center the lighting above the two basins but felt trapped by the central location of the junction box. After looking in vain for lighting in his price range, Sean finally decided to DIY it.

Sean made use of the central location of the junction box by creating two swag lamps. This moves the lighting from one central location above the mirror to hang over the two sink basins. And since that's where a person looking in the mirror would likely be standing, this lighting works much better.

Wow. What a difference that makes.
I love those!
Very cool!
I dig this!
been looking for a quick fix for my ugly bathroom lighting like this for almost a year! yay thanks for sharing
Beautiful bathroom but I guess I'm the only one who think the drum shades are a wee bit large for this space.
Classy!!
Visually it is such an improvement, but as I noted in his comments, direct lighting over a sink is very unflattering and not consistent with NKBA design standards. He was thoughtful enough to comment that you go with what you can.
I can certainly agree with that, but for people looking to do lighting in a bath, if you can flank the mirror on both sides with light, you get much more desirable illumination.
Very nice!
Good to know Indy. Thanks. Anyway, nice after!!!
huge improvement... nicely done
Very Nice!
Very cool but shades do look a bit too big for the space.
I've got to agree with the "big improvement but the shades are too large" crowd. I'd like to see them flatter and closer to the ceiling.
But that's just tweaking a great achievement.
Bravo! Scale is right on.
It's obviously not a small bathroom, and the scale of the shades is perfect.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
