Catherine's husband Danny owned this rather orange coffee table when they first met, and she freely admits to having spent the last few years moving it around the house in an attempt to hide its rather bright hue. The flaking finish plus some penmanship practice in one corner made this piece ripe for a makeover once Catherine found her inspiration in a post by a fellow blogger.

Catherine painted the base of the table a bright white to help lift the lounge room that currently houses the piece. She then removed that horrible old orange finish from the top, revealing the lovely wood underneath. Finally, she gave the top several coats of dark stain in order to acheive the chocolately tones she prefers. The end result is a solid piece that helps anchor her room — a piece that should withstand all her family can throw at it for years to come.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Great Job! Can't believe it is the same piece.
Looks like alot of hard work.
The makeover restored the dignity to this sturdy little piece.
The fresh paint and stained top were a great option (tho my taste goes toward natural wood color, but that's just me) and have brought the piece new life,
Great job!
Nice job!
This looks great! So much better than the "before", that's for sure.
This is fabulous - what a transformation!!
It went from looking worn-down and cheap to high-end and classy, great job!
It's projects like these that make me pause and give a second look to the orange grandma-ish furniture I see constantly in thrift stores and Craigslist. It looks great, but you're contributing to my collecting projects problem!
Wow, awesome transformation!!!
Looks straight out of a catalog. Amazing job!
That's gorgeous!
Inspiring! A lot of hard work really paid off.
Beautiful job. I would probably have done the whole thing in the dark stain, but it's SOOOO much nicer than before. (I also have a coffee table with drawers, and recommend them to everyone -- they don't take up more space or even visual space than tables without them, but they are incredibly useful for storing remotes and other junk that lands on tabletops...)
It's gorgeous!!!! LOVE it. The two tone is amazing.
I would do the reverse for my space cuzI have dark wood floors. Their light carpet floor with white bottom allows the piece to "float". Just add a layer of water-repellant materiel in case of white top.
Wow, this looks great! I never would have given that table a second glance. I really admire people who can see through the ugly.
What a relief! That thing looks so much better. What the heck was up with so many of those orangey finished pieces anyway? Second hand stores and thrift shops are crammed with that stuff and really hideous 80's clothes. Luckily there's an occasional gem.
The word "two-tone" alarmed me because we've been desks with wood-tone cases and painted drawer fronts. But this is spectacular. Talk about an ugly duckling -- that table is probably so happy to be what it could have been all along. That's the best before-and-after I've ever seen here.
been *seeing* desks
Really beautiful!
Wonderful work! Very classy :-D
Very nice.
Great job!
Lovely!
We refinished an old beaten up coffee table too, and love how it turned out: http://thesweetestdigs.com/2011/10/13/re-finishing-a-coffee-table-and-a-room/
Beautiful job, looks expensive and classy
Fantastic job! You've got a great eye.
usually i detest white paint paired with wood like this... but wow... i love it! tho i do think having the entire table that dark color would be awesome, too. very nice!!
