For Christmas one year, the very stylish Suki gave her daughter a renovated vintage dollhouse. First off, the dollhouse itself is amazing, with what looks like real plaster walls and a brick chimney. Suki tore out some of the old materials, repainted, wallpapered and re-filled the house with tiny furniture and fixtures.

The after is so charming, colorful and full of fun details. I would move in tomorrow if I could.
So amazing Suki! Guys, you can see more of the rooms over at Suki's blog. You'll need Google to translate text, but the photos alone are well worth a visit!

I had that same red table and chairs in my doll house as a child.
My favorite Before & After of all. The finished house is gorgeous, but can I just say the dreaded words-- "I liked the Before better?" Not style-wise, obviously, but because it is such a great "Before" photo-- complete with demo rubble, drywall dust, and what even looks like exposed conduit in the back of the upper room! Haven't clicked through to see the other photos yet-- doing that now.
Love it.
the mid-renovation picture is hilarious and cute
I love everything about this post. I have an obsession with dollhouses (though I haven't owned one since I was a child. I'm seriously thinking of getting a "builder grade" dollhouse version and doing it up.
It sure seems like it would be alot cheaper than changing my house around at whim, which I already do too much.
What a fun before&after.
And it's a good idea to renovate if a child is going to play with the dollhouse, because sometimes these old dollhouses have lead.
Agree;;; a very fun post but I was a bit disappointed to see 'modern' furnishings. I was hoping for a Victorian style.
The before brought a chuckle..
Anyone have an online source for doll house furniture?
I don't have kids, but I'd love to have a dollhouse.
My dollhouse had a very similar table and chairs (in black instead of red). I love all the details-- piano! chandelier! toilet paper!. Total perfection.
Ebay,Hippievieja! Ive gotten awesome deals from there, but you do have to weed through a lot of chaff to find the wheat! Ive built 1 house and renovated another, and trust me,its not as easy as one might think. She did a great job!
My daughter would love this.
I agree thatkris. There's something very evocative about the Before.
A friend of mine picked up an old dollhouse from a charity store with an eye to renovating it for her daughter. I begged her not to because it was so wonderfully battered, with peeling wallpaper, dirty windows, grimy carpets. It wasn't so much a dollhouse as a model crackhouse.
She appreciated and even shared my opinion, but it got renovated anyway :)
If anyone who really loves this is ever in Milwaukee for some reason, drive south about 30 miles to West Bend and visit their art museum. There is an enormous and incredibly elaborate dollhouse that is on permanent display. Some guy built it for his daughter years and years ago, and continued to add onto it for decades. After he died it was donated to the museum. I grew up there and used to go see it weekly and it is downright magical.
Hah, I have that same lamp in my kitchen now!
