Walking into Sherry and Miguel’s home is quite the experience. Quite larger than most AT House Tours, they manage to make the space feel warm and cozy, despite its enormous size. It turns out that the space was once an automobile showroom displaying Italian cars in the 1920s. When the couple first found the space, they decided to turn it into a place someone could call home (they didn’t initially intend on taking up residence). But when they saw the potential of the space (to allow others to enjoy what they call home on a daily basis) Marvimon was born. The name comes from signage that is displayed in the dining area that was actually found in the rafters during renovation. The space accommodates high-end events and simple outdoor weddings (which is how we first experienced Marvimon when our best friends got married there).

The space seems almost magical with its larger than life rooms and outdoor garden area. Luckily, the pair know how to design for such a large space. The oversized mirror in the entryway suite coupled with the velvet covered wrap around couches and an eating table that goes for miles help cozy up the roomy loft. The couples inspiration comes from their travels abroad and Sherry’s specific eye to detail. She is the brains behind the grandiose outdoor patio area with vertical gardens inspired by Patrick Blanc. Her strong advice to keeping the garden area up is to “pay close attention to the plants” (but we’re guessing her green thumb doesn’t hurt).

We fell in love with the space all over again when we went back to take pictures for this AT House Tour. Take for instance, the barn doors they decided to keep when they remodeled the space (which are original to the loft). The mirrored master closet hallway is top on our list when it comes to Marvimon favorites with the black backdrop of the master bed coming in a close third. Sherry and Miguel have also extended their unique view to another LA space called Smog Shoppe which opened just this past summer.

AT Survey:

Style of House: Industrial loft meets outdoor jungle garden

Inspiration: We get a lot of our inspiration from traveling, especially the garden and outdoor tub from our travels in Vietnam

Favorite Element: The master bedroom opens up to the outdoor garden

What Friends Say: It feels warm and comfortable given its large size

Biggest Embarrassment: The fact that my office is currently in our bedroom

Biggest Challenge: Keeping event guests off landscaping

Proudest DIY: Landscaping

Biggest Indulgence: 16 ft. Digital Cinema

Best advice: We didn’t have a master plan when it came to decorating the space. It tended to be unplanned and random–but in a good way. We love to mix different decades, patterns and styles usually starting with one impulsive buy and the design starts to build around that.
