When I posted a couple of weeks ago about hiding laundry in a small apartment, many of you agreed with my husband that keeping my laundry in the bathtub was a bizarre habit. Though I loved hearing how other apartment dwellers deal with laundry, I have no plans for an immediate change because I currently…
…have no available space in my bedroom or closet for laundry storage. I am, however, keeping an eye out for a hamper attractive enough to live in my bedroom once I move later this summer.
Here's a roundup of some of my favorites- please feel free to share some of yours in the comments.
Top row, left to right:
1. Storage Hamper from JC Penney - $100 (I love it in barn red)
2. Mahogany Wood Hamper from VisionDecor - $104
3. Wooden Bench Hamper from Kitchen Source - $78
4. Castela Half Moon Hamper from Target - $66
5. Savannah Divided Hamper & Liner from Pottery Barn - $149
Bottom row, left to right:
6. Crazy Linen Hamper from cb2 - $90
7. Jasper Hamper from Overstock - $95
8. Bamboo Lattice Hamper from The Container Store- $99

I really like that Crazy Linen Hamper. I put one of those compact square desks in my closet to use for storage. I want to put a laundry hamper in the compartment where the computer normally goes but I need something soft and compact so it doesn't scratch the wood.
I just had nightstands custom made so that one will have a laundry hamper inside and the false front (which looks like drawers) will pull forward to hold my hamper. I don't have a picture yet because the carpenter is on vacation, but his work is fantastic if anyone else in NY is interested. I designed the nightstands myself (inspired by a cheaply made nightstand I saw at Room Service in LA) and then he built them from wood and lacquered them by hand.
Wow. These are, um, kind of expensive. Nice, but beyond me. I got a lined seagrass hamper that is shaped exactly like 2, 5, and 8 (but without the divided liners of 5) for twenty bucks at Canadian Tire.
yes, these are all ridiculously priced. but the fact that people actually spend so much money on something that holds dirty clothes is even more ridiculous.
@ jesikka, that sounds like a fantasic solution!! i'm sure we would love to see what you designed!
I have something similar in #5 from ROSS, and it only costs me $30.
I still have an ugly crunch can from ikea for my laundry. I'm thinking of sewing a little slip cover for it though, until I can convince my husband that spending money on a receptical for dirty clothes is a good investment
re: the cost of a hamper- if it's something that is going to be visible in your bedroom or bathroom shouldn't it be decent to look at?
I have been looking for an attractive modern looking hamper for a while and am at a complete loss. I loathe baskets for the most part. Our house has 2 bathrooms and unfortunately the bathroom where we shower, brush our teeth, etc. is also the one that almost everyone who visits our home uses, so the hamper has to live in our bedroom, which does not have a very large closet, let alone a walk-in.
I looked for a long time for a nice (and cheap) laundry basket that would go well on my white bathroom. But everything that did not look like a bin, was far too expensive...
My solution was a box/side table from Ikea which was supposed to be for the living room. http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/70161320
For only 25 euros!! I now just want to paint it in the same colour as the bathroom cabinet and put a little cushion on the top to look like a small bench. ;)
